If you're new to h2g2, this column is tailored just for you. Read on to find out more about the site.
h2g2 can be an extremely confusing site for the new Researcher, and so I've written this column. Some questions I've come across recently are listed below in italics, with the answers listed as normal text. If you have any questions, e-mail them to [email protected] and I will answer you by e-mail and also in the next installment of the column.
Do I have to write Entries to be allowed to use the site?
No, you don't. There is no obligation for you to write at all, although having an Entry Edited is one of the coolest things that can happen to you on the site. So, if you write a real gem, go to the Peer Review Page and tell the world about it there.
If I want an Entry Edited, does it need to be in GuideML?
No, it doesn't. The Sub-editors put in GuideML for you, although if you know GuideML, it can't hurt to put it in.
Where do I find people to meet?
The Forums are a great place to meet people! Some of the most popular are the Waterworks and Beach, the Forum and Firkin, and the Aroma Café. Another good place to look every day for the most fun forums is the 'Five Busiest Conversations' section on the sidebar of the front page.
No one's left me a greeting! I feel lonely!
You probably haven't edited your Personal Space. Go to your Personal Space, and hit the 'Edit Page' button. In the box that comes up, type anything you think describes you. Make sure to put in a subject too, as pages without subjects can be somewhat hard to deal with.
That's all for this week! Be sure to see next week's article on Navigating the Forum System!
