Dear all,
While we always hope to be able to interpret the h2g2 House Rules as flexibly as possible, we do have these rules for a reason.
After we temporarily suspended Lord Wolfden's account over Christmas, he returned to the site in January and continued to break the House Rules in a variety of ways. Regrettably, we had to impose a second suspension through February.
We used Wolfden's suspension to work through the history of complaints and Wolfden's responses to our emails. With that in mind, and taking into account further activities during this period, we realised that it was highly unlikely that he would remain within the House Rules if we decided to grant him what amounted to a fifth chance. We also realised that if we re-admitted him, he would continue to be the target of abuse from people who should know better.
Today, we emailed Wolfden to inform him that unfortunately we would not be removing his suspension. As this is a unique case, we have agreed to forward links to a couple of Wolfden's personal groups on other sites so that his friends can keep in touch with him.

Despite the problems we've had, we do wish Lord Wolfden well, and hope he continues to enjoy using his other internet forums.
Regards,
The h2g2 team

I thought there was some sort of discussion with the community that was supposed to take place as part of the transgressions procedure prior to a ban?

And me. I am in daily contact with LW on MSN, he emails me interesting stuff too. Early on i said "I am interested in certain stuff, but not others",fine, he has never spammed me & is unfailingly polite & reasonable.
I do think this is rather unfair. Yes, posts such as "tropical fish still swimming" may seem boring & repeptitive, but in fact tropical fish don't actually do much except swim; feed, or die! I think he is entitled to post that this is what's going on at that time, i could quite easily post "Yoda is sleeping" very often.
One thing that maybe is not appreciated is that people with very limited mobility such as Wolfie have to work very hard to actually create interesting things in their life & maybe an extra degree of tolerance is required. Speaking as someone who has a degree of "disability/handicap/whatever the damn PC phrase of the moment is" i know that quite often you are on a fairly short fuse, because there is sod all you can do about the limitations.
But having a physical handicap doesn't necessarily mean you are mentally dim....but neither does it excuse you from the responsibilities of society.
Oh well, this is sad, but isn't life threatening.
Does anyone have a link to the Guide Entry, or was it in that he wrote about Muscular Dystrophy? Might be good place to post it on this thread to balance the picture a little.
Anyway, Wolfie, squeak soon mate.

While we cannot go into full details about this, it's worth pointing out that this is still a suspension, subject to review. The sheer volume of complaints involved, coupled with a clear case of wilful breaching of the House Rules on an almost daily basis (however minor) mean that we cannot sustain the level of support previously available to this Researcher. As a consequence, and with specific reference to the past month of activity, we have had to make the difficult decision not to remove the suspension at this time.
Realising that this may have an effect upon this Researcher's friends, we agreed to post links to his non-BBC forums to enable him to keep in touch.
As has happened in the past, we review suspensions according to conditions agreed with the Researcher based on past behaviour. In this case, we felt that the conditions would not be met to everyone's satisfaction. With this in mind, we don't feel putting this to the 'public vote' was entirely appropriate.

This is such a difficult situation, and sad that it had to end up like this.
....it is great that you put his web sites on here for people to chat to him!

The funny thing is I actually miss his inane posts. There was a big difference between the LW that left here and the LW that first arrived. I don't think we'd have ever been 'friends' but I found I could tolerate his occasional lapses more and more. Oh well While I shall miss seeing him around I don't think I'll be joining his groups

Look, he has gone now, and is not here to defend himself.
What is the point of all this, there is nothing to be gained.

I agree.
I have been wandering around hootoo all night & squealing with fear when i approach many threads, i am turning into a lurker.
The place seems to be becoming rather childish & bitchy & could well be why there are new & stricter rules in place.
Please can't we all try & play nicely together?
*sigh*
