Hi,
Thank goodness for google!I cam across this BBC site whilst doing some research for the role of being a sub editor and I was wondering how to become involved with the volunteer sub editor process? I haven't written anything towards this site yet, would that be a good starting point?
Thanks for your help!
Rachel

Hi, Rachel, and welcome to h2g2!
Writing some entries of your own would definitely be an excellent way to start. As a sub-editor, you need to work with our House Style and stick to the Writing-Guidelines, as well as be familiar with GuideML, the markup language we use on this site. That's all a lot easier if you have an entry or two under your belt. (Which isn't to say it's impossible otherwise, but that's the usual way round.)
An <./>ACE<./> will drop by your personal space to welcome you properly, and leave some helpful links. In the meantime, why don't you check out PeerReview - where future Edited Guide Entries are being discussed? You can also submit one of your own, of course. If you don't have any ideas what to write about, have a look in the <./>FleaMarket</.> for abandoned entries to finish instead. That would be a good way to learn to work with what other people have written.
I've e-mailed the Editors to say that we have new volunteers, but they're a bit busy, since the site just switched over to a new system today. Please be patient! There's a small test to become a sub-editor, but if you're interested in the work anyway, I'm sure it'll be easy for you.
In the meantime, if you have any questions or need any help, feel free to reply here or leave me a message on my space. I'm a human being, not an automated message, and I'm a current sub-editor myself.
