It's usually a good idea to spend some time getting to know your way around a site before diving into some volunteer opportunities. If you're interested in being a sub-editor at some point, a great place to start is to spend some time in PeerReview, where you can give the authors some feedback on how to improve their entries. In fact, maybe you'd like to submit an entry to Peer Review yourself, it's a great way to learn about how the system works!
