Hi there! It's usually a good idea to spend some time getting to know your way around a site, and learning how it works, before diving into volunteering for things. 
If you think you might be interested in being a scout or a sub-ed, it would make sense to spend some time getting to know how Peer Review and the Edited Guide work.
