Name: ChuckleTrousers
I am an english major, I love this site and everything on it, and my greatest dream is to be a sci-fi novelist with a style of writing similar to that of the bastard love-child of Piers Anthony, Douglas Adams, and Spider Robinson. Yes, I know thats three people, and all are male, but work with me here. Jesus. Anyway, before i was interrupted.... I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot. I like things like Quantum theory, computers, all forms of the written word, humor, and a few other things. I know at least a sentance or two's worth of information about almost any general subject you could mention, though. This is what happens when you are raised by an aspiring novelist and three doctorates (my grandparents insisted on having a hand in my upbringing.) The idea of helping out the real life version of The Guide just tickles me pink and fills me with pride at the same time, and I want to volunteer for every single one of the jobs out there (exept illustrator, I can't draw to save my life), but decided I would like to start with this one. If i get the job, I will be contributing heavilly more than four times a month. The only thing i need is an idea of what you want. Grammar and sutability, yes i know. But also should i edit and re-word them to make them smoother? And what do i do if i see some glaringly obvious error? basically just protocal stuff. Please consider me, as it would just make my week. By the way, my name is Eric. Pleased ta meetcha.

ChuckleTrousers, Welcome to h2g2! Good to see you here How did you find us, if you don't mind me asking?
You sound like an excellent candidate for the Subs's scheme - but it might be worth spending some time talking to people in the Community - ask h2g2 and Peer Review are good places to start. I'll add your name to the list and will get back to you in a while about your application, but you're certainly being considered!
To answer your questions, yes, you can reword entries, but you should try and check changes with the author. You should take out obvious errors if you see them.
See you around
Anna

Since i applied, I have read over all the info yall had on subs, just the basic stuff, and now understand it more fully. I cetainly will talk more and become active in this communnity. To answer your question, I nearly had an orgasm of joy when I discovered DNA's post-humous book, "A salmon of doubt". Along with many other worthwhile, hilarious, and deeply moving subjects, he makes many references to this site, and asks readers to contribute. I want to be a novelist myself one day, and I already have the burning urge to write, so I might as well do it here of all places, where I can contribute to The Guide. Thankyou for your prompt reply, I have to admit I was surprised. A site with as many new visitors per day as yall's, it must be difficult to make a personal reply to each and every one. I greatly appreciate the effort.

Dear ChuckleTrousers,
No problem at all - always good to see a new face. I've asked that a couple of your fellow Researchers, the Aces - h2g2's volunteer meeters and greeters - pop by and say hello on your Personal Space - hopefully they'll be with you soon
Good to have you here - see you around

I did that by typing : - D < c a k e > without the spaces. It's the way I acknowledge a post without saying anything.
On short posts, I sign off with a face smiley, then , and on long ones, as Whoami?
. You can see more explanation of smileys at the <./>Smiley</.> page.
