Dear Sir/Madam,
I am very interested in the job of sub-editor.
It would really allow me a chance to get to know the job of editing. I would like to learn more about the job because I am looking to edit a magazine in the future and it would be good to get some practice under my belt.
Regards,
Steven

Hi Researcher 182911,
I'm a Subeditor and I can say that it's a great job and well worth doing! It can take up a fair bit of time though, so make sure you know what you are letting yourself in for. There's lots of information on the different Sub-editors pages if you haven't read them already. Or feel free to ask me any questions.
You can change your nickname by the way (unless you want to be Researcher 182911 all your life) by clicking on Preferances. Also, if you go to your page (click 'My Space'), click on 'Edit Page' and add something (doesn't matter too much what it is), one of the friendly researchers will be along to welcome you to the site and give you any help if you need it!
There's probably a little queue for new subeditors at the moment so I would spend a while exploring around the site so that you get to know the feel of this very friendly community.
See you around,
Frankie

Oh that's fine Frankie. I'm familiar with the site and I'm not particularly bothered about my nickname.
Could I have my name added to the list of sub-editors?
Thanks,
Steven

Hi Steven,
Glad to see you're interested in volunteering - Frankie here's worth listening to as well - he 'knows things'...
This is a good site to learn subediting - not only do you get your name on all the entries that appear on the front page, but you can also quite truthfully say that your editing has been for BBC Online. Of course, you don't get paid, but this is a mere technicality...

Oops - cross-posted with you there...
As Frankie says, you should probably take a few weeks to acquaint yourself with the Guide, both in terms of entry style and community spirit. I'll add you to the waiting list for Subs and let you know when a vacancy comes up.

Yes, it's great for CVs and interviews, also as a chat up line at wild parties (well alright I made that bit up).
I would definately reccommend giving yourself a nickname though. Being a number can be a good statement, but it's also a bit, anonymous...

Oops, looks like I've really started something. LOL. OK, I am going to personalise my nickname so from now on I shall be known as TotallyCrazyMan.
I hope this is cool with every1 and I look forward to hearing more about the Sub-Editor Position.
