A Conversation for Volunteer to be a Sub-editor

I know the standard philosophy of 'never volunteer for anything' but being a sub-editor sounds like fun. I think I'd enjoy having the power of life-or-death over the innocent prose of other researchers, er, I mean, the challenge of honing the rough diamonds of submitted entries into gleaming gems of information..
Anyway, I'm Cabby (Researcher 32834). My written English is pretty good (I tend to end up reviewing/editing other people's technical papers at work a fair bit!) and I've been reading the guide on and off since it launched, so I'm pretty sure I've got a feel for the place.
So, I'm ready to step up to the line, put my head on the block and employ other clichés if required.

Welcome, welcome! Thanks for volunteering! I'll add you to the list and when I do the next round of recruitment, I'll be in touch. It shouldn't be too long to wait...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
