Talking Point: Who Would You Choose to be President of the World?

11 Conversations

Bob Geldof.

Forget sceptical newspaper talk about future presidents of Europe. Imagine the biggest and most important election ever known - to choose a President of the World. Really scary, I know, but... OK, you get to choose the powers invested in them - maybe a humanitarian brief to tackle hunger and poverty? And anyone can stand.

Who would you plump for? Geldof? Sting? Blair? Thought not. Yourself? Possibly. So, what we want to know this week is:

  • Does - hypothetically speaking, of course - anyone spring to mind?

  • Is it just too crazy or dangerous an idea to contemplate?

  • Would most people in world really want a president?

  • What powers would you allow them?

  • What kind of personality would a suitable person have/not have?

  • Would you give everyone in the world over the age of 18 the opportunity to vote?

  • Who would be prohibited from standing?

  • How successful do you think they would be?

  • What term would you allow them - a year, a month, a decade?

  • Should they be paid?

  • Would the two of you plan to take over the world?
