BUG: Updating my Personal Space
Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Started conversation Jul 18, 2009
I spotted a minor error of punctuation on my page so edited the code to correct it (A missing apostrophe)
I'm still waiting for the page to upload some 20 minutes later - and the only hint I get anything is amiss, is the ever rotating 'working' dial in my browser and the info in the task pane 'contacting bbc.co.uk'
I'm using Safari 4.0 on an Imac and I'm in Classic Goo.
I'll let you know when or if it ever actualy completes the update but until then I cry: Bug!

Doesn't appear to be.
I'm currently writing an article and I can preview and update that just fine but my PS just seeks to stick in this cycle.

Try in a different browser? I had problems updating in opera, but none in firefox.

Ah-ha!
In Firefox I get a message:
This entry has been blocked as it contains a word which other users may find offensive. Please edit your entry and post it again.
I think the correct phrase is "??!"

I seem to recall you once had the same problem - something to do with the rooster or whatever it is called. Maybe check that?

Hmm could be.
I just read through the 580+ names on that list - () - and nothing jumps out as being offensive or a combination of latter that could possibly be misconstrued as.
Is there any way of I don't know 'searching' for the offensive text rather relying on me spotting it? (If it exists)

No. I've only encountered this very rarely, but the only way to find the 'offensive' word is to go through the whole entry/article paragraph by paragraph, updating every time you've added the next paragraph. Then you'll at least know exactly which area to search in.

You can do a binary chop. Cut off half the text and try. If you get a problem, the word is in that half of the text. Cut off half again. That way you narrow it down neatly.

But when you have text as long as Clive's, a binary chop is quicker.
Anyway, I chopped off the stuff before and after the drop-down list, and it still wasn't posting, so then I did binary chops on the list and narrowed it down to one item.

This will work, with the HTML character code instead of the letter i.

Private Investigator + key is a banned word?
I confess I didn't even see it when I looked.
Thanks Trig!!

It must have been added to the filter after you last updated your PS, and only your attempt to edit it now triggered that filter.

Yup. The filter is applied "on write" not "on read", which means that banned words can sit quite happily in the Guide until you attempt to update the page they're on.
