I promise you that if you close N3 I will never visit the BBC site again. And I know I am not alone in saying that I will campaign and petition for its survival. I'm on 56k - I don't mind waiting.

I just posted this on 3N, and thought the statistic would help TPTB see that it's not 3N that's the problem:
It took me 18 seconds to load in my last post, and about 15 seconds to load in the thread to read the most recent post.
In contrast, between those two times, I loaded in another thread - one with less than 5 posts on it, and that one took 12 seconds.
74,000+ posts = 15-18 seconds
<5 posts = 12 seconds
I'm really not seeing a problem, to tell you the truth.

I think what Jim said was a few days too early
Oh and to everyone who thinks it's a travesty, it's just a thread. There are other threads. If you take it that seriously, you really do need a life. But then again my opinion is clouded since my current career path and Thingite title means I'm supposed to be evil.

*just a thread*
The guy's mad. It's part of our thingite identity.
Everything is 'just' something. Just a country, just a baby, just a life!
If it gives a bit of meaning to us sados, so be it! Some people might tell you to get a life for being a hootooer at all!

Four years later and they decide it's gone far enough? Leave it alone. Or, if you need to cap it, cap it and allow a new thread to start, but let the post count continue. Cap at eighty thou, then open new thread on post eighty thou and one.

Well I did say as a network administrator I'm supposed to be evil. I'm fulfilling my job description by making live easier for the many by inconveniencing the few.

Ah but two of those are just mad links for the week. Sure they're gonna get archived but what's a between Thingites eh?
And what's wrong with being a northerner?

We don't mind waiting. As a Thingite, methinks the campaign is correct in being proud of such a remarkable achievement!
Poor you, being evil as a career

Yep, it's just a shame I'm not so good at the evil bit. I'm like Casper the friendly ghost, only I'm not dead (not having a life doesn't count).

Yeah, it may be sad that people are willing to get worked up about N3. But it's the thread with 74k postings on it.
If TPTB feel they MUST shut N3 down, they should make it so that when it hits 100k, clicking on it will take you to 100,001 and then there would be a link above 100,001 to take you to the first 100k postings. That sounds sensible and would reduce loading times (I think).
However, is it really necessary to fiddle with it at all?

Jim has said this before and he didn't close the thread. It's got to be an elaborate April Fools joke.
No I'm not switching sides. I'm not on either side. I just see both of them

Jim shouldn't give people panic attacks unless he means to, but then I'd probably be a sadistic hypocrit so I shouldn't talk.
But I will. Thanks for the reassurance. Be forewarned, to see both sides is the hardest place to be stuck in.
