A Conversation for Topic of the Week: The FBI

King

Hoover being what he's reputed to have been and The Sixties being what they were ("If you can remember the 60s, you weren't really there.", it's probably unsurprising that the Feds of that era have conspiracy theories cascading out of their orifices. They were said to be involved with Malcolm X, THAT day in Dallas, Sirhan Sirhan - you name it.

The worst tale for me involved Dr. Martin Luther King. Possibly due to my Indian blood, I truly respected the man; seemingly a Gandhi acolyte/devotee to the core.

It's almost certain that Hoover was having King under round-the-clock surveillance, including 'illegal' wiretaps (remember who was Attorney-General then). Rumors as to the Fed's involvement with his assassination were and are rife.
