A Conversation for Why failing to vote is NOT a valid protest - if you dislike them all, then spoil your paper

You say "People are still being killed because they hope for the right vote."

I expect you meant "People are still being killed because they hope for the right *to* vote." ?

Good Entry! I'm interested to see the report that spoilt votes do get read, but I'm not entirely convinced that they will commonly be read by anyone who can and would want to do something about issues raised in a note on a ballot. Writing to the counters and the returning officer is hardly the most effective thing?

Thanks for spotting the typo - I'll correct it now.

I agree that in terms of people to write to, Returning Officers are not the most influential in the world. I am just saying that spoiling your paper is not a completely pointless thing to do.

One thing that this entry has taught me is that a surprising number of people aren't aware that you can spoil a ballot paper.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Recumbentman.

Cheers Ben.

In F2045034?thread=621251&skip=10 I compared it to writing to Santa Claus.

Your entry is a good ploy to get people into the voting booth; some might go in spoilers and come out voters.
