Your Highness, You have a most amibitious to-do list. I especially enjoyed reading about the Mayan calender & the Dido opera (both were previously unknown to me). Wish You the best of luck in your studies. I am a graduate student at the University in Greensboro, NC--which, incidently, is about an hour's drive from Durham, NC. My background is English literature, primarily the Medieval Period. Look forward to reading your fascinating entries again.

Hi St Michael,
Thanks for stopping by my page. Ambitious my list is, certainly, I hope I can finish it!
Do you know about Medieval mystery plays? thats the next thing on my list to write about when I've done a few more of the things. We had some Mystery plays in Durham last saturday & I enjoyed them lots...

Your Highness,
Know a little bit about mystery plays: actually participated in one while an undergraduate. It must be quite nice to live in a place with such a sense of its own history. While there are many good things about living in America, one of the drawbacks is that the past is not present (not unless you count all those '70s revivals, like retrospectives on Abba, that currently fill American broadcasting.
Rather enjoy the mystery play, as it is almost pure theater--that is, theater at its most bare (or, in Britain, theatre), & also accessable to the average play-goer--no exteraneous drapings or frou-frou.
Hope this missive finds you in good health.

Thankyou St. Michael I'm in very good health; how's yours?
Yes it is nice to live in a place with history; Durham's cathedral has dominated its skyline for the best part of 1000 years & you can't ignore the history towering over you.

Your Highness,
My health is excellent; thank you for asking.
Was trying to figure out exactly where Durham was...it's near Scotland, isn't it, near where Hadrian's Wall used to be? If that's correct, that area is near where my family lived at one time (I mean my ancestors--not the current crop).

Yes its not terribly far from Scotland- the Scottish and English armies used to fight a lot of battles in the area
