Great, I am amazed ! But without the ability to actually add and edit entries, or to enter My Space - it seems like perhaps you have fallen a bit short. I understand that you may still be working on this, but why release it to the world wide media when it really isn't finished ? I found out about the mobile version from a news article posted today at Yahoo, which means you are actively releasing the mobile version. Seems like you could have waited until it was done. And what is the hold up anyway, seems like it would be easy enough to impliment in Windows CE.

"It depends on what your 'mobile' is capable of, when it runs a browser capable of handling cookies you can already use < <./>/dna/h2g2/plain/</.> > to log in and interact.

The release of the mobile version is directed to the wider public only receiving 'a little' more then text messages.

Hello Christopher!

Thanks for your kind words about our brand new h2g2 Mobile service. Yes, we would like to be able to upgrade the service (once technology catches up a little!). The aim of getting h2g2 Mobile up and running now was to have it in the public domain in time for the release of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy Movie - nothing like some nice publicity to piggy-back onto!

The whole purpose behind the launch of h2g2 Mobile was to showcase the Edited Guide. Just like in the fiction of Hitch-Hikers the portable guide was the finished work, so h2g2 Mobile is the finished, edited guide, updated every working day, for curious readers to browse and enjoy.

It will be some time before we're able to offer a full 'interactive' h2g2 on mobiles and PDAs, simply because of the limitations of current mobile technology.

Once again, thanks for your kind comments! smiley - cheers

Paully

I saw the ad on the home page & immediately assumed that this would be a synchronisable version of the Guide available on my PC - so avoiding the telco charges but able to access and contribute to the content when on the move & little else to do. It's not, so I'm a little dissapointed and would love to add this to the list of things you're planning to do with the guide...until then I can’t see myself adding to the guide in my 'in front of PC' time...though thanks for pushing the envelope. BTW the registration for is the finest I've ever seen.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
