A Conversation for Talking Point: Zoos
The Jungle
Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Started conversation Jun 16, 2005
The Jungle is a cheap local attraction which I regularly take my son and grandson to.
They love it.
There's talking mynah birds; turtles; snakes & spiders & lizards & an alligator (behind glass); in the garden there's chipmunks, a cappuchin monkey (which looks bored out of his skull to me) several parrots, goats and lemurs.
Then there's a sandpit & climbing frame for a family of meerkats.
This is what breaks my heart, they just stand there, keeping watch, just like they do in the wild. They're so cute the boys love them (so do I) but I wish they were in the Kalahari running free and standing guard without being on show.
There's no doubt they're the star attraction, but it's a double-edged sword, even the boys think it's cruel to keep them in captivity.
