Delicia,
The paranoia in the story seems to me the normal response of those with a view of the world in which more often than not people look to harm others as a matter of fact. That is so in the geo-political situation we find ourselves in now and in some countries, is so in day to day personal and business relationships.
We have conversed before - haven't heard from you. Hope all is well.

Oh hello Ira,
how good to see you here, I did think that this was just the right site for you, having a bend for contemplation and analysis.
Paranoia is often used with an unspoken connotation that that of which the paranoiac is afraid does not in fact exist. And that is of course erroneous. In a favourite film of mine the main hero, a professional killer, trots out the old saying that "just because you're paranoid they're not out to get you." "It's a joke", his companion says. "An old joke." "Really" sez he. "I never laughed."
I didn't laugh either. I still don't like being inmidst of crowds or sitting with my back to a roomfull of people, or slowing down at intersections with my doors unlocked and in a closed room you'll always find me somewhere near the exit...
Again good to see you here!
Delicia
