A Conversation for Plastic Storage Containers

Does the amount of air that you can remove from the plastic container by burping it actually make a difference in terms of removing the oxygen? Are the containers actually airtight over long periods? Inquiring minds want to know!
One other thing to mention might be the recent custom of PSC makers labeling their wares with a number or letter on both the top and the base so that you can find which top belongs to which base. The fact that anyone's pantry will invariably have a differing number of tops and bases is what keeps the cling-wrap people in business.
Also you could mention the mason jar, the antecedent to plastic storage containers but still in use today by jellymakers and plastic-phobes.
