Entry: IBS - Update - A3708803
Author: An Inconsequential Hoopy Frood - U168592
A few minor changes to bring up to date with a recent Edited Entry on Constipation. I'm actually thinking there could be more added to this Entry, but I've not got all that much experience with IBS. Any further suggestions happily taken.

Well three categories that I would add in would be:
* Diagnosis
* Risk factors and causes
* Treatment - including diet modifications, medication, and exercise
I'd be willing to lend a hand on some of this if you need some help.

Since the folks doing the Updating are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, I am fine with a less-than-entirely-and-thoroughly-complete Updating. What Hoopy Frood has done is good.

Could I suggest a link to Crohn's Disease (A771482) - another illness that is sometimes confused with IBS.

Just posting here to remind myself to come back and give your some paragraphs about diagnosis and risk factors and all when I have some time later today.

OK, here's for diagnosis, the others will come shortly-ish. I would probably use this to replace a good chunk of the last paragraph --
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is considered a functional gastrointestinal disorder. Functional disorders are diagnosed by their symptoms alone - there are no lab tests or x-rays that can tell if someone has a functional disorder. For IBS, the main symptom doctors look for is abdominal pain or discomfort that is associated with bowel movement changes such as constipation or diarrhea. IBS is also a 'diagnosis of exclusion' - if a person has these symptoms, a health care provider will diagnose IBS only after ruling out other diseases that might be causing the symptoms. Some of the disorders that might need to be ruled out could include infections, food intolerances, and inflammatory bowel disorders like ulcerative colitis. It is, however, possible to have one of these disorders and IBS at the same time - in this case, IBS might be diagnosed if the severity of other disorder was not enought to completely explain the gastrointestinal symptoms experienced.
Some people will read this and ask themselves, 'If that's all it is, why should I bother to go see my GP about it?'
As mentioned above, there are many other disorders that have similar symptoms - it's a good idea to give your doctor the opportunity to rule those out.
Even though IBS isn't life-threatening, it can be a significant downer on your quality of life. You deserve effective treatment.

Actually I've done all I want to do as far as Updating. If you want to take over Mikey, feel free, pinch the job lot There's really nothing more I can add. So, um, I guess all I'm saying is, yeah I think its finished from my end, but Mikey can take up the 'brush' and finish the decorating if it so pleases

Would it be easier if just created yet another copy of the entry and edited from that, rather than posting things here? I would probably get the changes made quicker that way, truthfully.

Yeah, no prob with that idea M I can then remove this one from the Update Forum if you want and you can whack the newer version in when its ready? I just have more on my plate and like I said have put as much info in as I can.
