Years ago - in Guernsey.
Roses - beautiful aren't they ? Perfect for a gift to demonstrate one's affection.
They grow in greenhouses - care to have a guess how hot it is in a greenhouse - in Guernsey - In June. Roses have thorns, many thorns, and if you wish to get paid, you have a quota to pick, and a quality standard to maintain.
It was common to lose 8lbs during a morning's work.
Picking potatoes - now that was just backbreaking - walking along rows that have been tilled by the tractor, pulling out the spuds and dropping them into your basket, whilst the sun burns down on your back.
Oh God how I worked my youth away.
