Why is history important? Here's my attempt to explain this after reading an article for a class assignment.

Dr Hell

Hello...

From the title of the Entry I expected to see a list.
Like: "These are the Historic Values: a) b) c)..."

I think this Entry is more an introductory essay about some specific ideas. A collection of ideas, and not an explanation as to why 'history is important'. I think that the Edited Guide is not the right place for it, in the present form. But then again, this is just me...

Hello.
First of all thank you for reading this.
Do you really think it is unfinished? I do not know how to withdraw my entry from Peer Review if it is so.
If it's just the title (sorry for misleading) then what would be a more apt title?
It could very easily be both.
Cheers and ty again smiley - tea

I believe it was Napolean who said "History is the lie we agree on," and I'm sure you know history is written by the victors.

Modern history builts an arguement from diverse sources to support a hypothethis - the importance of history lies in developing an understanding of how we arrived at the current situation, and how we can extrapolate from previous actions what would be a desirable course today, given what has failed previously.

I'm sure you can make history more interesting than a list.

This entry may be titled "Important Properties of History", but that doesn't seem to be what it's about. Another problem is that it doesn't actually seem to be about anything in particular. Each paragraph lightly touches upon the bare basics of an aspect of history, and then moves on to another aspect before fully developing the topic. It's also incredibly boring to read. Guide articles are also supposed to inform the reader. The entry doesn't inform the reader of anything in particular. It simply suggests that the reader study various aspects of history, and in a very dull manner at that. A list of different historical viewpoints is not helpfull or informative. Perhaps you should pick one aspect, such as the repurcusions of political decisions on history, or geneology and write a guide entry on just that. If that one subject works out better, you can expand on the others you touched upon in this version.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
