RGU has a long history, founded in 1750 as a residential school for boys and developing through many incarnations, most notably Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology (1965-1992), before gaining university status as The Robert Gordon University in 1992. It still offers mainly vocational and professional courses rather than purely academic ones and has one of the best employment records 6 months after graduation in Britain (98.1% in 2002)
I graduated a few years back *ahem* but I'm willing to give this one a go as I don't think there are too many alumni here on Hootoo. It was a great place to study, if a tad cold at times. Aberdeen is a city that should have been a village! There was great rivalry with Aberdeen University, which has slightly more students and a much older history, but that was usually resolved by the time everyone got to the bar at the 'Uni' union, Robert Gordons Union bar being far too grim to contemplate!

Famous(ish) alumni are Ena Baxter (the woman on the Baxter's Soup ads!!) and Donny Munro, the lead singer of Runrig.
They're not very famous at all if I have to explain who they are, are they?

I'm starting an MSc by distance learning through RGU in September. Not that it matters, but I thought I'd mention it...

Oooh, are you doing it through the Virtual Campus? Looks quite a good scheme. I had a look at that as an MSc option.....quite a while back andhaveneverlookedatitagain......

Brilliant - our first proposed Entry on a Scottish university!
RGU students appear to be spoiled for choice where websites are concerned - RGU: The Student Alternative: http://www.rgu2.co.uk/
So the university has two campuses - the more traditional Schoolhill campus and the pretty spectacular-looking Sir Norman Foster-designed Garthdee campus?
It would be interesting to have a brief explanation of who Robert Gordon was as well...
