I think we need to let the other volunteer groups know about it before we start to get regular traffic. Anyone on the Scout mailing list that also holds duties as Guru, Ace, or Sub? Send the word, man!

Anyway, I'll be on the channel for a while, if anyone feels like dropping in.

I fear I may have to consign this failed project of mine with all the others.smiley - sadface 'twas not to be. Although I'm hoping Marvin's Fan Club will make a come-back.

I think it will succeed if we let the Aces, Sub-eds and Gurus know. There just aren't enough Scouts.

I know there are scouts in multiple volunteer groups, I'm not one of them -- I stopped being an Ace when I became a Scout. I don't think anything has been mentioned of this on the other groups though. Once someone does, the chats might get larger.

Of course, I'm not sure I **want** to get too friendly with other Scouts. You guys remember what Mark said in response to my first recommendation. If we can't recommmend our own works, or the works of our friends, I don't want any other scout to consider me their friend.

Perhaps if someone posted a msg about the chatroom on the other Volunteer scheme pages, that would also be a way of letting them know about it.

I've already tried, like I said this is a doomed idea, firstly few people know how to use IRC and secondly mIRC without a doubt the most popular client for windows requires you to pay after 30 days. Whilest personally I have no quams about going to http://astalavista.box.sk and getting the latest crack for it, most people won't feel the same way.

I wasn't on h2g2 when this conversation started (and ended apparently). Is there a place on IRC where researchers are chatting??? Also, if mIRC is something you have to pay for why not just download pirch? Or move the whole mess to a server like talkcity which is IRC but is also available via the web for non-irc types?

TIA
