Webbed Toes

Like you Melissa, I have my second and third toes webbed all the way up including the nail...I was so surprised to read your message, as I have never seen anyone with a toe that looked like mine...I always felt like I must be the only person in the world with this...sometimes unnerving!!! I grew up always burying my foot in the sand at the beach and would've given anything to wear a pair of flip flops! I went to the doctors when I was younger and he had never seen one like mine, basically took a lot of xrays and could not wait to show his class he was teaching...very discouraging, never looked further into getting them fixed...the bones are fused at the top of the toes, so an operation would have been more risky then it was worth...My husband loves my foot just the way it is, my three girls all were born fine(it was the first thing I looked at when they were born!) They think nothing of them...just that Mommy has nine toes....when I turned 38, I figured it was time to let go of my insecurities and bought my first pair of open toe shoes(not a big huge opening, but open toe none the less and got my first pedicure (I knew they were talking about me in a different language, but I didn't care) Now I'd like to paint a smiley face on that big nail and say whatcha looking at!!. It has always kept me grounded in appreciating that it could've been alot worse....Andrea

I have webbed toes also. 2nd & 3rd toes on both feet are webbed 75%. I think its cool and never been self conscious about it. My mum was devistated when she saw them but lucky for me my parents gave me the option to correct them if I wanted. I've never considered getting them fixed, because they are part of me. I have had people suggest upon seeing them that they'd get them fixed if they were me. I always reply with no way, its who I am! Plus they make me swim faster
Take care Clayt

I am a 53 year old male and have webbed toes on both feet. The second and third toes are webbed and go all the way up to the nail. I think webbed toes are cool. Most of the time, I think nothing about them. I wear sandals all the time and don't really care what anyone else thinks. There is a yahoo groups web site that is for people with webbed toes. It's an awsome site.

hi, i am a 15 year old girl, and i have my 2nd and third toes webbed about 60% of the way up. I strongly think you should bet your daughters toes separated. I wish my parents had when i was a baby, and now they aren't willing to spend however many thousands of dollars it costs(i don't really know how much) to get some skin between my toes cut apart. There are many reasons why you should separate your daughters toes.
First of all, she is a girl. Girls wear sandal alot more than guys, and i am sure she will want to feel comfortable wearing flip flops of any opened toed shoes.
Second, people have noticed my toes, and i can tell you, its not a horrible feeling to have to show everyone around who heard them say somehting about it, but i would be alot happier having normal toes and not having to worry about it when i wear shoes that reveal my toes.
Thirdly, since your daughter is young, if you get it separated now, the scars will heal much faster (as a result of her young age) and by the time her feet are fully grown, the scar will be a third of an inch, and barely visible.
If you have the money, and are considering separating her toes, i think you should do it.
Webbed toes may be unique, but she can have uniqueness in her personality or abilities in stead of somehting that its a lot harder, and more costly to change later on.

I am a 35 year old woman, I am considered funny, fun, sexy, good hearted etc. but I have webbed toes and I am so embarrased by it, I too dig my feet in the sand and only buy sandals that only expose my toe nails not my whole foot, I have a child and when she was born that was the first thing I looked at because I prayed that she would not have to deal w/ this as well. I have NEVER showed my feet to anyone, always keeping my socks on w/ a lover etc. my parents are the only ones who know about this and I am very interested in having them seperated, I too thought I was the only person in the world w/ this and realize there are alot of things that I can be concerned with I mean it is not a medical condition which can impair my health but I really am intrigued that there is actually a site about this and would love any info on correcting this, I am embarrased to even consider a foot doctor looking at this, does anyone know anyone who has had this corrected I would love more info on this, Thank you.

I am a 23 year old female with webbed feet, my advice to you would be to get your daughter toes separated now before she is my age always wanting to wear flip flops and cute open toed shoes or get a peticure but but always being too self concious to do so. My mother is the one with webbed toes and our toes are the exact same, she told me that when i was born she thought they were so cute, the doctor gave her the option of separating my toes but as she says she was so proud that one of her children came out with toes like her that she would never even contemplate separation. I am 23 now and currently seeking a doctor to perform the separation surgery. I have to admit this has been fun reading all of the other comments put up about others with webbed feet. (i'm not alone )

hi ya,
my name is leyannder and i am a female of 20. and until last year i was very very paranoid about my webbed toes which is laso my 2nd and 3rd toes joined halfway up i have thought about having them seperated but my grandad used to tell me i was a very special little girl!! and he didnt want me to have them seperated so i didnt and i have thought many times wether to have them done or not but now i am quite attached to them and will now walk on the beach bare foot! and if i start getting paranoid again i just think about what my grandad used to say before he died so no i dont think you should get them seperated just tell her how special she is and that she is unique and let her decided for herself when she is older its worked for me!!!

Ley,
Good for you. My toes are webbed on both feet about 90 percent. I love to show them off. I walk on the beach barefoot, too. I can't stand to have shoes on anymore. Hopefully, more of us webbies will show them off. I've never met anyone with webbed toes other than on the internet. It would be nice to sit down and discuss our webbed digits. Some day, maybe, someone with webbed toes will notice mine and will want to talk about them.

I've lived 21 years with my webbed toes and have thought of them as nothing but a conversation piece. I find it would be more hurtful to fix them and have to explain to your daughter why she wasn't perfect the way she was born. It will help teach her self confidence and to love herself as is. I've never once been ashamed of my toes and quite frankly, all my girlfriends poke fun at me because it somehow always comes up when we meet new people. Don't be afraid and count it as a blessing that she was able to have such a unique fact about her that you two can share in!
