Sad, rather than scary. I think I rather expected the rats to gang up on Amy's parents! Though the story of a child who goes off to join the rats is undoubtedly poignant.

It feels oddly cool at the moment. I think it would be more intense if you stuck to one point of view- say that of John. Then we'd feel his growing concern about his daughter's odd behaviour and Elizabeth's panic and his heartbreak when Amy goes missing.

And I wonder whether it would be just as effective if you left Amy's fate unclear, with John just seeing occasional glimpses of a shape that might be a child.

Just a quick one. I've signed in and it's just started thundering. I worry about my computer at such times.

Thanks for reading it mVpoet. I've a few ideas for improving it and I shall try to incorporate your idea too. I always make the same mistake, don't I? I always make it too cool and detached. Wonder how long it'll take me to learn

It wasn't really meant to be scary. Everybody seems to try to make rats out to be super-intelligent villains. I thought I'd just make them fairly ordinary creatures and make the girl unusual. Challenge the stereotypes.
