First up, I enjoy eating out, I don't mind paying high prices, and I like to see what the fuss is about at famous name places.
Now then - what's all this nouvelle cuisine carping about? I usually find I can't finish what I've been served, I don't know of anywhere that does the "3 peas on a plate" thing these days.
Places I've been disappointed by - the 3 michelin starred Crocodile in Strasbourg. Ferociously overpriced, especially the wine, terrible GnTs, and not very exciting food. Service was good, though, (welcoming fax at the hotel where we were staying) and the chocolate truffles that came with the coffee were divine.
Also Spoon, at The Sanderson. I don't like the mix and match approach of the menu. But they do do the best bloody Marys!
Outstanding meals I've had recently were:
Michael Deane's in Belfast. Fab food, great service.
Harmony - an organic restaurant in Luxembourg. Really excellent quality food and drinks - the organic Amaretto is heaven in a glass.
Reddyfreddy's brother's place in Castlemaine
Chiggerri in Luxembourg. The greatest wine list on the planet.
The Savoy Grill. A worthy legend
