A Conversation for Gardeners' Guild

Orchids

Post 1

Tacysa

I just started hanging back around hootoo again and found this...also noticed that the Gardeners' Guild had my How to up on it!

I was wondering if anyone had much to do with orchids around here? I do love them and am working on building my hoard back up to a less-than-healthy number again after a recent decline in health.

Hi There smiley - smiley
I grow Orchids, both indoor and outdoor....well, the outdoor ones just appeared in my garden smiley - smiley
What type or Orchids do you have? I have 4 phaleonopsis and one Cyprepedium. 3 are in flower right now. In the garden i have 1 Common spotted orchid and 1 Bee orchid. There were 2 Bee orchids, but one has either died or gone dormant smiley - sadface

Looking at Tacysa's PS, i think she is in the US.
She did an entry on Dendrobiums, so i'm thinking she has tropical indoor orchids. smiley - smiley

Sounds lovely, Venus, to have all of those lovely natives outside! I plan on attempting some Bletillas this year, but I don't know how successful I'll be.

Frenchbean, I am in the Southeastern US, so I've got hot, humid, lots of sun, and tons of mosquitoes! smiley - biggrin

No problem on answering for me, at all. I've got a variety of 'chids. I've got dendrobiums, phalaenopsis, masdevallia, angraecum, phaius, cattleya, etc. So I've got tropical, subtropical, desert, cloud forest, and little from everywhere else. I'm a huge plant junkie...smiley - blush

What kinds do you have?

I have a couple of phalaenopsis and another one which was given to me by my Aunty (and I don't know what type it is!). I had not seen any growing wild (or even outside) until yesterday when I was lucky enough to go to River Cottage in Dorset on a herbal day. We went for a long walk around the land picking wild herbs, and hidden away was a large area of spotted orchids. They were just coming into leaf so no flowers to see, but the leaves were very pretty.
