Recently Mrs RBA has been purchasing organic fruit and veg weekly from an online supplier. In order to compare prices she bought the same items from our usual supermarket - but forgot to cancel the online order for that week! Consequently, we had a lot of bananas that became over-ripe before we could eat them.

Fortunately I recalled a recipe I noticed in a newspaper some years back, which said that barbeqyued bananas was a delicious way to utilise over-ripe bananas. Hence this is a similar recipe to that, which we've just had for 'afters' on Boxing Day.

No, the 'q' is correct Emmily. (That's why the shorthand for this form of cookery is Bar-B-Q) smiley - ok

Sorry BigAl, we say Bar-B-Q as Bar-B-C just wouldn't convey the meaning, so we use the sound, 'cue' as Q smiley - smiley

I was unsure myself, and triple checked before I posted.

http://dictionary.reference.com/ Online dictionary said 'No entries found for Barbequed' ~~ 'Did you mean Barbecued'.

I googled for BBQ, and found the barbecue spelling.

And the h2g2 entry you link 'barbequed to, uses the barbecued spelling. smiley - smiley

BigAl, smiley - sorry I believe I'm correct, if I'm still wrong after all that, I make a smiley - grovelling apology. smiley - oksmiley - laugh

We were both right, Emmily. That 'Online Dictionary' you cited gives 'barbeque' as a synonym. However, I've changed it to 'barbecue' anyway because my dictionary (book) gives the spelling with a 'c'. (It's not often that I get caught out with a genuine spelling error! smiley - laugh

Hmm. I deliberately didn't use the cinnamon toast link as I think I used it on my mulled wine Entry - but I'll check.

Ref 'off beat' - that was also deliberate as I believe the whole point of 'links' is to direct Researchers to Entries they otherwise might not read.

smiley - ok Emmily. I've swapped the links to 'Milkshake' as you suggested; included the link to 'Buntiful' (I like that one, surprised I didn't find this one myself!)and deleted the link from cinnamon to carrot cake.

smiley - erm Maybe I misunderstood the meaning of 'off-beat' smiley - doh I meant Cinammon Toast was an unsual recipe that you wouldn't find in your average Recipe Book, as is Barbecued Bananas, which is why I suggested the link. smiley - smiley

I don't think it matters if you have the same link in more than one Entry, if the link is appropiate to more than one. smiley - erm

Yes, the idea of links is to direct Researchers to Entries they might not other wise read, and I think it's great to add them, you can find some 'hidden gems'. smiley - biggrin

Ideally, links to Entries ought to be; on the main subject of the word they are linked by, and the most appropiate for the Entry. smiley - smiley

(smiley - erm I won't mention the other link that IMO is it a bit 'iffy' I'll wait see if anyone else says anything.smiley - biggrin)

Remember, you can add other links that you'd like to include at the bottom. I wish I'd known about that sooner.

smiley - smileyHopefully, someone with more experience in PR and Entries than me will reply soon. When they've recovered from the Christmas holiday. smiley - ok

Seasons greetings BigAl smiley - biggrin

I'm with Zophiel on the effective addition of alcohol. Personally having grilled the bananas whole until the skin blackens and splits I tip the bananas out of their skins into bowls with the sweet liquor caught in the tinfoil, douse with golden rum, sprinkle with muscavado sugar and maybe a splash of cream smiley - drool

If you haven't got good rum, brandy makes a more than acceptable substitute smiley - ok

Just a couple of nitpiks BigAl smiley - winkeye

Last word of first para. barbeque ~> barbecue

Under the heading 'Procedure' you say 'aliminium foil', and under 2. seving suggestion you use 'tinfoil' might be better to stick to using one or the other, though looking at my rolls, it's also called kitchen foil, now three to chose from, spoilt for choice. smiley - smiley

Might be an idea to add a footnote to 'tipple' explain the meaning.

Removing the current footnote will be one less job for the Sub-ed. smiley - ok

smiley - ok Made those changes, Emmily - except 'tipple'. I'm sure most people would know what is m,eant by 'tipple', but if anyone else makes the same point I'll include a definition.

I've changed 'tinfoil' to aluminium foil for consistency, as all kitchen foil is actually made from aluminium and not tin!

smiley - erm Why would I want/need to remove the current footnote?

Re-'tipple' smiley - ok I was thinking of people for who English is not their first language. smiley - smiley

>"Why would I want/need to remove the current footnote?"

I saw someone else do this in an Entry, and was curious as to whether is would be left in the Entry, so I followed it through the PR process. One of the first things the Sub-Editor did was contact to author to tell them they had removed the footnote, and suggested that when the Entry got to the Front Page, they could post a Thank You message on the bottom of it. smiley - ok
