A Conversation for At Home With Sho

I liked River Song a lot
In fact that whole library thing was pretty cool... but no spoilers or answers to speculation here, missy!
As for me, it depends on my mood how I handle things like people getting served before me. If it is someone young enough to be one of my offspring I usually loudly point out to the Gruesomes that they are much more well brought up than to do that.
But sometimes I directly confront the salesperson. I work in sales so I know exactly how customers can make a salesperson uncomfortable

I did like her, though I can't stand the actress who played her (and think the name is kind of dumb and Buffy-esque ). I just don't, for some reason I can't put my finger on, like the idea of her as a companion.
But yeah, thanks for "no spoilers". It's more fun to find out on my own- and with just the last two episodes to go, I guess I'll know as much as everyone before I go to bed tonight.
I liked "Turn Left". It's interesting to think that if you went back into your past and changed one thing, even if it seems relatively insignificant, a whole lot of people could be affected.
When dealing with salespeople, I try to bear in mind that they're only human and can act as irrationally as the rest of us, and also that they're only doing it to make a living. Same reason I try not to be awful to any of my co-workers, even if I dislike them- we're all just there for the paycheck; we don't need abuse and aggravation. But I tend to lose patience with outright rudeness or extreme stupidity, especially if it seems willful.
Maybe next time, if it is an older person ignoring us and an older person cutting ahead, I can commment loudly enough to K that it's a good thing our generation was brought up with better manners than that, or something.
And just to show that it's not me- yesterday, at the grocery store, we had a bag and a half worth of stuff and were stuck behind someone who wouldn't bag his own stuff. The girl behind us had just two items, and I asked K if he minded letting her go first, and he let her go ahead. She was grateful, so we didn't regret it, either.

The more I think about it, "Turn Left" has been my favorite episode this season besides "Planet of the Ood".
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Sep 24, 2008
I loved Planet of the Ood. Turn Left was good - but the mum irritates me a lot so that was a bit of a downer.
But the ones in the Library were my favourites.

Incidentally, I've seen them all by now. Re-watching, I find more things to like or dislike. I've come to the conclusion I'm not a huge fan of "Love and Monsters". And that I quite like Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, too. Just waiting for those specials to come around. Now I'm on to Blake's 7 (I have Ictoan to blame for that- gosh, what a great show!), halfway through the second series.
Reading your latest journal... and find that I could use a gift voucher to get the Clangers and Bagpuss if I wanted. Are they worth owning, as an adult who's never seen them but not at all averse to whimsical or surreal children's programs?
Also- I've got a little something to send you. I'd intended to get it there in time for Christmas but that might not be the case, at this rate.
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Dec 14, 2008
sorry, I forgot to reply!
I love the Clangers much more than Bagpuss, although I find the saggy old cloth cat truly wonderful. More than Bagpuss, however, I love Noggin the Nog. A wee viking-ish fellow.
You can see them all on YouTube though and check for yourself
and ohhhhh surprises by post. I love 'em - whenever they arrive.

I find myself forgetting to reply- and thinking I have- quite often lately.
I'll take a peek at YouTube and see. I keep forgetting that the BBC doesn't seem so hellbent on keeping their stuff off YouTube as some of the US networks.
Hope everything's going OK over there. It's really cold today, but otherwise I can't complain. Though I'll be happy when work isn't so busy- year end is a bit of a drag.

Sho - employed again! Posted Dec 27, 2008
I especially love surprises containing any (or all) of the following: Doctor Who, Chocolate, Lemon Pepper!
You shouldn't have.
but thank you
The gruesomes also send and
there's a very tiny thing in the post to you, by coincidence!
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Dec 28, 2008
Sometimes the best things come in tiny packages!
You're all of you welcome- and thank YOU!
(Not sure why I didn't see this yesterday- and I've tidied my convo list twice recently...)
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Dec 28, 2008
I've given up tidying convo lists
I lose anything anyway
We watched Voyage of the Damned yesterday - cracking stuff!
btw, how do you get on with Wallace's accent?
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Dec 28, 2008
I think I may have had to rewind once or twice because I didn't quite understand something Wallace had said, but I think I do all right. I do sometimes have difficulty with accents, though; I think we watched "This Is England" with the subtitles on.
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Dec 28, 2008
hehe
I heard that a lot of people had problems with films like The Full Monty too. It's the accent of my home town so it's ok for me, but I know people from the south of England who have problems with Wallace too.
And now... I clean the bathroom. It's all fun here!
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Jan 2, 2009
It's all fun here, too. This week has been so busy, and I'm feeling a bit "off". We had yesterday off work for the holiday and we spent the whole day doing little "tidy-up" type projects, rearranging the contents of drawers, etc. I'm so tired today I could fall over.
Have you ever seen the Dr Who movie, the one with Paul McGann? I bought it on DVD a while ago and watched it yesterday afternoon. It's not unlike the current series, what with more modern, higher-budget effects. It wasn't half bad!
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Jan 2, 2009
I saw it, but to be honest can't really remember much of it.
But speaking of the McGann boys - not sure if it's the same one, but i saw a bit of the TV Hornblower yesterday. He's a fine thing, Mr. McGann...
I'm still off work with the Girls (school holidays) but is working. We had a wee bit of snow overnight, and as a result have spent the day watching Lord of the Rings. We're just starting on The Two Towers now.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get of my butt and rearrange the kitchen cupboards. But... I have 2 woodworking projects I want to get off the ground - and I'm not back at work until Wednesday. Hmmmmm...
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Jan 2, 2009
Woodworking projects sounds like a nice way to spend a few additional days off work!
I've been thinking that K and I need to have another LoTR-a-thon soon, now that we've finished Blake's 7.
Mr McGann wasn't too bad to look at, no.
Ugh, only three and half hours till it's time to go home. It's kind of silly to be off for a holiday and then come back for one day before the weekend. And it's got me all muddled up, like it's Monday and Friday at the same time- and all the worst parts of both.
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Jan 2, 2009
oh I know - usually here people take those days as "bridge" days but someone always has to work (we have a few public holidays which fall on a Thursday - if you have to work the Friday it totally messes up your body clock)
We managed 2 LOTRs today. Maybe we'll watch the last one tomorrow. Depends on the weather I suppose and if has to work.
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Jan 3, 2009
I see we have a new Doctor selected. I'm looking forward to seeing him- I heard that "Swimming With Sharks" was brilliant (I've only ever seen the film, not the stage play), and he looks perfect for the part. I'm so glad they didn't go with that Paterson guy- I'd watched some YouTube clips with him in, and wasn't too impressed.
Though I'll admit to being apprehensive about Moffat taking over. He seems like such a Joss Whedon wannabe- and I so dislike Joss Whedon's stuff- and most of the episodes he's been credited with writing are my least favorite... but I refuse to set myself up for disappointment. Especially as we won't be seeing him for another year anyway.
Did you manage The Return of the King yesterday? We had a family thing last night and have a concert this evening, so we haven't watched any films yet this weekend. So we're just watching more old Who today. But we have a long weekend coming up within the next month or so. I can never remember if we get Martin Luther King, Jr day off or not until it's right upon me, and I didn't get a holiday schedule from our payroll department yet.
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Jan 3, 2009
we didn't manage ROTK yesterday, and won't today either since has found
and won't let us have the TV
Not sure about the new Doctor. Knee-Jerk reaction from me is: he had better have an older companion or it will all get too young and silly. As for Stephen Moffat - he wrote what I think is the best ever ep (Blink) so I'll probably forgive him anything.
Who!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Jan 4, 2009
I'll agree with you that I hope things don't get all young and silly.
Being stuck watching doesn't sound like much fun. It's such a relief to me that I found a guy who's not into sports, either.
It's cold and raining here today, so we may actually watch a film on DVD. We have a few accumulated, waiting for us to watch them. I found some hot chocolate made with chili in it, too, at our grocery store, so thanks again for introducing me to that lovely flavor combination.
So, if they decide on an older companion for the new Doctor, what sort of person would you like to see? I'd sort of hoped Donna's grandpa would go along with her and the Doctor at some point, so maybe someone around that age? Definitely not a mother-hen type woman, though. That'd be too weird.
Who!
Sho - employed again! Posted Jan 4, 2009
I'd love Donna's grandad to come back - maybe as an irregular companion. I just worry that it would get too much 90210 if we have too many young actors. I'm facing that with the new Stargate show and I'm not happy about that.
As for Chocolate and Chilli - the film to watch, not sure if your Husband would appreciate it though (although quite enjoyed it) - is Chocolat. Johnny Depp
and Juliette Binoche.
