A Conversation for At Home With Sho

Hi Sho

Post 1

SomeMuppet

I saw your posting on the Nationl pride thread saying that you live near Cologne (I can never work out the ulmauts?)

I didn't want to post this there as it is wildly off topic. My good lady wife and myself (as well as 10 other rowdy drunken Scots) will be descending there in June for 3 days, one of which is fully booked from 6pm. I just wondered if you could point out any places of interest, events and/or provide any links to sites of interest?

Cheers

KJ

Hi Sho

Sho - employed again!

oh lucky you, I love Cologne.

OK, first off, you simply have to visit the cathedral (Dom) and climb up to the top. It is the 2nd highest church tower in the world (I think) - certainly the 2nd highest in Germany. On a clear day you get an excellent view of the surrounding area (it's flat so you can see for miles)

Depending on what you want to do... Well, the zoo is where I usually go (I have small kids) and there is a chocolate museum quite near the centre. There's also a small but interesting museum about the Romans (as you probably Cologne was a pretty important city to them) and a nice modern art museum.

http://www.koeln.de/

This is the official website for the city, available in English
*** note to mods, I can't make it link directly to the English page***

in case the mods don't take pity on us and leave the link, type all the www dot koeln dot de and click on the union jack in the top right corner

It seems to be pretty comprehensive.

Have fun you lucky people, after Hamburg Köln is my favourite city in Germany.
