I'm currently up against some German postal addresses. They look lots different from the ones I'm used to.

So I thought I'd ask an expert...how in the heck to do you read them?

give us an example of a postal address...

ok usually they go like this

private addresses:
name
street
plz (zip code - 5 numbers) town

plz can be preceded by D (for Germany

so
Herr Johann Schmidt
3 Irgendwelche Strasse
D-12345 Stadt

company addresses
the name of the company comes first
XYZ GmbH
Herr Johann Schmidt
3 Irgendwelche Strasse
D-12345 Stadt

No idea about quotes
but it you had been following The World Famous Drool Thread as carefully as some of us (ahem) you would have realised that we never actually stop at Private/Sergeant/Ensign/Lt/Capt/Maj/Lt Col Sharpe (and he's Mr. January on the Drool Thread Calender 2006)

they are organised, btw, according to which of the Länder the town is in. For NRW (NordrheinWestfalen, they begin with 4) Bavaria begins with 8 and I think Lower Saxony begin with 2.

btw, isn't it absolutely fabulous to use h2g2 like this? Exactly how it should be used.
