Hello Sho!
Ellen Posted Nov 17, 2001
Harry Potter was quite good, but it had some bits that would be very scary for young children I think. I absolutely loved all the owls in it. We need an owl smiley.

Oh you saw it! I'm so jealous. Can't wait.
I'll try to make the party... I'm not sure about the time zones...
Got to cook the fishfinger lunch that they always demand on Saturdays. Sheesh, the dad's a chef and they want fishfingers!

Hey Sho, thanks for the birthday greetings. Be sure to read all about my presents and stuff on the Beatles thread. I had fun.
Have I told you about going to see Monsters, Inc? That was a really good children's film, I had a blast. It was made by the same people that made Toy Story. (I can't remember if I told you about it or not.)
Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I love Thanksgiving because I don't have to do any of the cooking, I just get to pig out. I have a big family, lots of siblings, so our get togethers are huge. My brother is frying the turkey this year, I hope it turns out good. Happy holidays, talk to you later. JE

No, you didnt tell me about Mmonsters Inc, sounds good though, I loved Toy Story and so did the gruesomes.
I just found out that a film that they love is out now on DVD so I think I'm getting it (even though we don't yet own a DVD player....) a friend of mine was one of the animators (Help! I'm a Fish is the film)
We don't have Thanksgiving here, but I hope you have a happy holiday - it sounds great having such a big get together. And, I suppose even though it sort of eclipses your birthday, it's nice for you to see your family at this time.
I'm so excited, my mum is coming over the day before my birthday!

Ahh, Sho, when is your birthday? I guess you don't get to see your Mom often, that will be great.
I highly recommend getting a DVD player if you are thinking about it. I love mine. I still buy videos if they're really cheap, but I like to see things on DVD. The picture is so much clearer and crisper. The Wizard of Oz looks great on DVD. And I like how you can jump straight to your favorite scene, no more rewinding and fast fowarding. The only think I don't like about DVD is that sometimes if the disc is dirty it will skip backwards on me. Oh well, nothing is perfect I suppose. Ah yes, and you can pause for as long as you want on your favorite heartthrob, and there's no static. Great for drooling.

I'm thinking of getting a DVD player for the hubs for his birthday, the company I work for belongs to a group that make them, we get staff discount. So it shouldn't be too expensive. And I definately want to get Help! I'm a Fish on DVD - the gruesomes love that big time. Ho hum, I'll have to wait, as I just had to get a new washing machine. Sigh.
My birthday is 8th December, so not long now... just over 2 weeks and I'll be 38 going on 12. My mum gave my girls two party dresses (oh maybe you saw them?) so now they have decided that we have to have a formal tea party with long dresses, and my friends have agreed! So we'll be sitting there in ball gowns!
And, just in case you're back on here today: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving was fun. Frying turkey is definitely the way to go. It was a lot juicier than a baked turkey. My brother Mike told us a funny story about how he bought flowers for one of his coworkers, and she burst into tears. He was very taken aback. She must have been having a rough week.
A formal tea party in long gowns sounds like fun. I saw the girls in their photos. You could serve fancy Pepperidge Farms cookies, the ones with all the neat designs.

Glad you had a good thanksgiving. I can't imagine frying a whole turkey... mind you I don't eat meat anyway.
I saw what you had in the Beatles thread, yum slurp! Sweet potatoes, we very rarely find them here, so when we do I buy loads and we pig out. How do you cook them? We bake them in the oven with apples, everything sliced up.

the Shee Posted Nov 25, 2001
Shee, Sho, Shea, and sea (she doesn't quite fit... hmm.... ). Just 'bout got it covered, eh?
(Shea like Shea Stadium )
Hope you don't mind my budging in on your conversation... I'll be leaving now...

Ah, so you're a vegetarian. Have you seen Linda McCartney's cookbook? It's quite good. I like the Mexican cornbread. As for the sweetpotatoes, we serve them mashed, with chunks of pineapple and nuts, and marshmallows melted on top.
I saw a delightful French film this afternoon called Amelie. I liked the young star, I don't know her name, but the critics are comparing her to Audrey Hepburn. She was just charming.

I saw you mention that film, unfortunately my chances of seeing it are slim, I've read about it though. I look forward to the time when we can just order films via our groovy home wide-screen all singing, all dancing, satellite tvs directly from the film company. Then I'll get to see all the stuff I've missed over the years. I should start making a list..,.
Shee, feel free to join in... I don't think JEllen minds... do you?
I have the Linda McCartney cook book. Some years (about 15) ago we started a tradition, quite by chance, of always eating moussaka on Christmas Eve. And we've done it ever since. When I got that book (what is it, 8 or 9 years ago?) I thought I'd try her version for a change. We use Quorn mince, and boy oh boy, is it scrummy. You should try it.
And next time I get sweet potatoes I'm trying your version... not sure about marshmallows though!
Hello Sho!
Ellen Posted Nov 27, 2001
Shee is always welcome to join in. I've never even heard of moussaka, much less eaten it.
I'm very preoccupied right now with a friend who is severely depressed. She's had a terrible run of bad luck. She's had to move back in with her mom, whom she doesn't really get along with. I won't rest too easy till she's doing better.

Oh I hope your friend is OK.... depression is an awful thing.
If you like we can carry this conversation on in your Beatles thread, save you saying everything twice (unless you need the typing practice!!)
Moussaka is a Greek dish supposed to be made out of minced lamb (urgh!) which is cooked in a yummy sauce, then you layer it in a dish with slices of aubergine and cooked potato and a white sauce made with egg, then finish the layers with white sauce, sprinkle with parmesan and cook in the oven. Yummy. 1 million times better than lasagne! I make it with Quorn mince, but you can use TVP or anything.

Jump on over to the Beatles thread if you like. I don't think Shee will mind.
