>> Nitrogen gas in the atmosphere can also react with oxygen at the high temperatures in the combustion chamber to produce nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Don't add in oxides of sulphur at that point. If you're talking about buring oxygen, nitrogen and hydrocarbons, it doesn't make any sense to mention oxides of sulphur since sulphur hasn't been mentioned.

, it has:
A car’s exhaust is by no means a simple thing to study. Motor fuel is obtained from crude oil produced by the decay of marine organisms. It therefore contains the elements carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), and nitrogen (N), along with some amounts of sulphur3 (S), all of which are found in protein.

actually, Trig, in this sentence:
"Hence motor fuel contains hydrocarbons and organic compounds4 containing nitrogen" > Hence motor fuel contains hydrocarbons and organic compounds4 containing nitrogen AND SULPHUR.

What it says at the moment is:
"It therefore contains the elements carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), and nitrogen (N), along with some amounts of sulphur3 (S), all of which are found in protein. Hence motor fuel contains hydrocarbons and organic compounds4 containing nitrogen."
This is a bit of unnecessary repitition which could be tidied up.

Probably to something like:
...car’s exhaust is by no means a simple thing to study. Motor fuel is obtained from crude oil, produced by the decay of marine organisms. It therefore contains the elements carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), and nitrogen (N), along with some amounts of sulphur (S), all of which are found in protein; and which are present as hydrocarbons and other organic compounds. When these are burned...

The last lot of exams may be finished, but I do have another lot coming up. And a project to be getting on with. So I'm leaving h2g2 for a couple of months at least. I don't know what may happen to this in the meantime. Sorry, but there it is.
