Apparently it is eaten grated onto bread with cream!
- Is this true, or was my Dad's South Aftrican friend winding him up?

Biltong grated onto bread and with cream??!!!! You have to be joking. Biltong comes diced, sliced,garlicked,chillied,peri-peried, but best of all it comes in great big sticks. Everyone has their preferences, very dry, dry, slightly wet or soft and tender. It is made from beef, ostrich, game and even Snoek, which is a salty fish that can take your finger off when you catch it. But please! Never grated, and never eaten with any, any additives.

Hmm - does everyone else out there agree with this?

Well, I'm English ( but brought up in Africa) and my fiancee is from SA, and we have it grated on bread with cream all the time. So do the rest of her family and all the South African friends that we have over here in the UK. Pretty definitive answer, I'd say.....

Eating grated biltong with cream is like mixing a teaspoon of instant coffee into your tea......it is most simply just not krikket! It is like scratching one side of the ball to gain extra swing. One most definitely does not Just do it! I have a feeling those people who grate their biltong have no national health and Very blunt dentures.

Biltong by itself is the best.
however it does go pretty well with ice cream - the tastes complement each other.
But most of my family just eat it plain (my mom's from SA)
