So you mean there is hope in socity because it knows when to herd like typical sheep/lemmings to what ever is popular?

Oh I'd call that progress in thought, now all we need to do is lead by example and everyone will be giving.

"Atheists frequently celebrate the material side of Christmas and, for them, it is no big deal that they are being incredibly hypocritical, because no-one is going to punish them in the hereafter."

Atheists like a slap-up meal and presents as much as anybody else smiley - biggrin.

I'm not entirely sure about Muslim celebrations either, I think that the 25th is not as big a deal as Ramadan (not sure if that's the right name...) which follows fairly soon after smiley - erm.

Recently Ramadan has come before Christmas. It's one of those holidays that follows the lunar calendar, so I think it moves around: http://www.factmonster.com/spot/ramadan1.html

Quite frankly I’m disgusted by the manipulation of Christmas to material gains of the individual. The atheists should go make there own bloody holiday instead of defiling others.

'Tain't the atheists - it's capitalism and materialism. smiley - smiley

On the other hand, Christmas kind of co-opted existing pagan solstice celebrations (Saturnalia et al.), so all this wretched excess we're experiencing is actually bringing the holiday back to its roots...

quiz (in an iconoclastic sort of mood today)
