Tinnitus and labrynthitis

No wonder they can use noise as a torture!

A couple of months ago I had a bad sore throat, which went after a few days. But for the next 2 months, every day I had sore gums or aching teeth, or a mild sore throat, etc. But I also had an increasing noise in both ears. It is very difficult to describe, but it sounds like something you would make in a laboratory, high pitched with a slight pulse to it too.
The one thing that is certain is that it is a 24 hour a day thing, it's there as soon as I wake up, like an unloved friend. It is as loud as a normal volume television, and goes from very irritating to so annoying you can't concenrate ,to read or watch T.V. At times it makes me frustrated and angry and short tempered, they say Tinnitus comes in degrees from mild to life affecting, mine I would say is life affecting.
On Friday I explained my problems to doctor, on first visit. he said it sounded like Tinnitus (ha, ha), and wrote to E.N.T department at local hospital for an appointment for me.
By Sunday, the room felt like it was trying to turn and I felt a little sick, also felt strange when leaning forward...this was the last straw, all the other symptoms I could cope with and still work, but this was too much.
On Monday doctor said new symptoms showed I had labrynthitis (middle ear type thing) which was causing vertigo and Tinnitus. Was given mouth swab for general health check, and Serc-8
6xtablets daily. This will treat vertigo and Tinnitus.
Well hopefully it will, 'cause it drives me around the bend at times! Hopefully, as when I was younger I used to listen to loads of loud rock music, and lots of live rock bands....and 6 months ago I had to give up using headphones even at moderate level, due to ear noise and pain after an hour or so......this noise is hell at times, don't know if I could cope with it for ever!!
.Had to go back to doctor a week after starting Serc-8, as room spinning, Tinnitus worse, pain in both ears, feeling sick, shaking, and worse of all, and very scarey, my eyes had become sensitive to light, were half closed and flickering...waited in waiting room looking half blind and shaking. Said was it an infection needing antibiotics?
doctor said no, and effects in eyes are caused by labrynthitis, just very severe...given Stemetil instead..2 x 3 times daily. It is spoiling Christmas to be honest, can't concentrate on anything!!
It's 8 days after starting Stemitel and room has stopped rolling along with feeling sick and pain in ears....well I stay stopped, I went to doctor yesterday and he has started tablet reduction, starting Monday, but I have pain in my left ear again and just a slight rolling feeling, so I might not be able to start reduction he suggested...he said go by how symptoms are..I will keep you informed....the lazer sounds in ears are at 6/7 out of 10...at worst they were at 9 before! It's Monday and lazer ear sounds worse if anything, and very sensitive to sharp noises.....I hope this guide entry helps others as I felt quite alone when it was at its worst. Sadly, tablet reduction didn't work and noise got worse, and room spinning returned....doctor gave sleeping tablets as keeping me awake, I was also told it could last for SIX months, oh the joy, lol. I would welcome any comments.
I went to ENT specialist in March, which wasn't much help really, he said stop using Stemitil, so I reduced it to zero over 6 weeks, but the noise is appaling, 9/10 and 24 hours a day, with pain in ears on and off, and a very slight wobbly feeling.
It is now May 2005, the noise started in October 2004, and to be honest I have had enough of it, it is really getting me down and making me a bit depressed and losing interest in things in general....the noise is as loud as a T.V and sounds like a lazer/dentist drill!
......I would really welcome comments from other suffers, thanks.
