Hello Peerers
This started off as an entry about Physic Gardens, which kind of changed emphasis as I wrote.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Dec 7, 2004
"essential"
Hmmm....
"Basic or indispensable; necessary"
"Biochemistry. Being a substance that is required for normal functioning but cannot be synthesized by the body and therefore must be included in the diet: essential amino acids."
Perhaps 'essential' is not quite right word?

I don't feel like reading through this at the moment, Frenchbean, but one word jumped out at me: enahnce.

This looks like a good 'un. I'm wondering if it might be worth including a bit about the Doctrine of Signatures: http://www.holysmoke.org/wb/wb0081.htm ?

Typo sorted, Gnomon
I never heard of the Doctrine, Felonious I'll read it later and perhaps add something about it
I am not at all sure that the title is right Should it be 'History of Herb Usage'? It's not really about cultivation

Why not just 'Herbs in History' ?
all sorts fo herbs --> all sorts of herbs
Would it be worth adding footnotes to explain the quotations? For example, Matrix = Uterus

Title changed I think that's better. Thanks Gn
Typo fixed.
I'd thought about footnotes for the quotes, but I kind of like the mystery of the words What does anybody else think? I'll certainly add some if folk reckon it'll help the entry

When I first read Matrix, I had this vision of Agent Smith being brought down by elderflowers. So I agree it would be a good idea to include the footnotes.

Lovely entry. A nice link jumped out at me though:
In ancient Athens, violets were worn in wreaths to ward off drunkenness. At public baths Athenians were rubbed with herbs and herb oils (A636914) to enhance their strength and courage.

Felonious
Thank you for the link to the Doctrine of Signatures. I had heard of it before, but didn't know it was an actual philosophy/doctrine, with a name I've added a paragraph about it
