Ghost stations

Are you going to have a section on stations that were never completed or opened? Like the one at Bull and Bush, between Golders Green and Hampstead? The platform is there, complete with a white safety line along the edge, but they never built the station over the top.

What about the Post Office lines? Are they going to be included? After all, they're going to be closed down soon, and this may be the only place a record of them will exist!

I assume there will be a section on WWII usage - air raid shelters, kitchens, cabinet meeting rooms, hospitals, weapons factories, etc.?

It is all very well creating a record of how the tube IS, but although this is useful, how it WAS is also fascinating.

I also noticed a brief mention of Beck's map not being geographical. Are you going to include a section on maps of the past, as well as the future?

The ghost stations are steadily being added in the appropriate locations on their lines. smiley - biggrin

I think I'll write an entry on the Post Office line (which I'm led to believe is already shut smiley - sadface), but it probably won't fit in with the rest of the Underground guide. smiley - erm

Also, I plan to do something on Beck's map and its predecessors in the future, but I don't think it would fit in with the 'station by station' tag.

The record will most definately include the history of the tube - it's just a work in progress, and not everything is in there yet. I've already added notes on the Northern Heights, Epping to Ongar, Ealing Broadway to Windsor etc. smiley - biggrin

Details about WW2 usage will probably be noted on a station by station basis - at some stage I'll get round to adding the bit about there being two Belsize Parks, for instance...

Number Six

Wasn't there a plan for an extra Northern Line under the Northern Line - higher speed limited stop sort of thing... some of the stations were built, but the war intervened and they became deep-level shelters. I think most of them are safety-deposit-type places now, although I think in one in South London became an underground factory in the war and the MoD kept hold of it for a long time after that.

Yes smiley - biggrin - I think Belsize Park 'mark 2' was actually completed - I'll see if I can find a link...

That starfury website is SO cool! I've just spent an hour wandering around it! I'm amazed he was allowed into North End and LOVED the pictures. Maybe you'll be allowed to link to those pages? It would save you a lot of typing! smiley - biggrin

I think I'll aim to collect various stuff for each station, then say 'for more details, see...' smiley - biggrin

There is already an entry in the guide about ghost stations, but I can't find an edited version. Maybe you could use some of this and credit the Researcher? He hasn't been online for 2 years anyway.

I don't think there's an EG entry about ghost stations, but rather one about ghosts - A673391

Ooh! Ooh! That entry refers to Lords! I can tell you a little about Lords! It is in St John's Wood (obviously!), on the Finchley Road, only 500 yards down the road from St John's Wood Station which is still very much in use today, on both the Jubilee and Bakerloo lines.

Lord's station is now a Chinese restaurant called the Lord's Rendezvous. It has been there for over 20 years. I have never been inside, but the 13 and 82 buses stop right outside the door if you want to go and take a look.

I'm not sure it was ever a working station. Does anyone know any more?
