Do I need to sign up if I'm already listed on the page?
Well, just in case I do - hi, I'd like to learn Portuguese please. Off to the other threads now...

Hi... My name is Hell, I am Brazilian. I always had very good marks in Portuguese. And was (for a brief spell) a Portuguese teacher in Germany. So, if someone would be interested in Brazilian Portuguese, I'd be glad to help out. Grammar and all. Maybe starting a thread called "Dept. for BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE" would be OK... But it's up to the bosses...
Just reporting in...

Heya!
I'm not certain what's happening with the Portugese dept itself let alone a new branch of it! There seems to have been a distinct lack of enthusiasm since opening the dept...which is annoying seeing as everyone badgered me so much about it. However, if you can get it up and running again I'll be very very happy. I do believe we have at least two researchers who want to learn Portugese.
Is there a great difference between Brazillian and Portugese Portguese? Currently I think it would be a better idea if you could get the actual Portugese dept off the ground...if that would be okay?

Take a look at both the speaking and teaching threads on this article page and see what's been going on. I think certainly Lady Pennywhistle and Scandrea might be regular learners. Scandrea can already speak reasonable-ish Spanish but I'm not sure about Pennywhistle. Both of them are pretty much complete beginners when it comes to Portugese.
If you want some idea of how to run the teaching side of things, take a look at the German department. That's always been the most active place.
Also try introducing yourself in the speaking thread, and seeing if you get any response

I see what you mean. I have looked at the threads. I think Watermusic is in the Algarve, in Portugal so to speak, so what she is teaching might be a bit different from what I would teach (I spotted major differences). I don't want to bump in there saying 'I think this is better, or in Brazil you'd say this and that' just to find out I am being counterproductive or obnoxious because the people there don't even want to know anything about Brazilian Portuguese... Errr... Are you still with me? Dis you understand what I mean?

Yeah I do understand what you're saying. Perhaps it might be an idea to introduce yourself in the talking thread and discuss the differences and whether they are going to get in the way of each other. I doubt that the learners have really considered the difference between Portugese and Brazillian, so I couldn't say which they would prefer to be honest.
I guess the only way you can see is to dive in and see what happens really. Sorry I can't be more helpful on this subject. In the German dept we have German and Austrian German and they just sort of rub along and one points out where things are different from the other. But then there aren't THAT many huge differences...

The difference between the Portugueses are more comparable to Swiss and German German...
Anyways... I've just bopped a note here to sign in, and to say I am around. I'll bop a similar note to the other threads, OK?
See ya around... Thanks for your help

I'm sorry for not being very active... in my defence, when we talked about learning Portuguese I said I don't think I can do it right now because I'm pretty busy.
I know that's a lousy excuse, but I am. So when the thread 'went to sleep' I just sorta kinda didn't notice I guess.

Hi! You can go to the 'PORTUGUESE teaching thread'. Write something in portuguese there so I con know how what level you are. There are some other students in there and maybe one or the other 'lesson' you might want to look at! http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F1957603?thread=538974&skip=60&show=20 See you later! Ola! Can I sign up?
I'm Scottish (from Dundee by coincidence, Paul!) and have lived in the Algarve for 3 years. I'd like to learn a lot more cos at the moment I tend to repeat learned phrases without any understanding of the structure. I can speak a fair bit of conversational, day to day stuff and my translation into English is fair but I would like to learn how to construct sentences and help with verbs and adjectives cos they are killing me!!!!!

Technically, I've lived in both Perthshire and Angus, since they keep switching the boundaries! I used to live out the back of Clatto Park, halfway between Dundee and Birkhill!
I've had conversations with a few Dundonian friends and often wondered why everybody always says they live in Angus and not Dundee!!!(not that I need to wonder, really!!!)

Aren't there just some bad areas!
I used to work for Social Services in Dundee, and spent my days wandering about the highlights of Whitfield and Mill o'Mains!!!
I live in Portugal now and it's a tad more civilized!
