what would be great would be a database based feed - ideally so you were notified via RSS of any postings to conversations you were watching. Anyone know what the underlying technology is to H2G2?

"Ah, you have found it . . .
In reverse time ! ( , as I changed the entry )
Hmm, when I wrote the entry I was not impressed by the concept of this RSS. Now I am lots more curious.

yes, now I think more I'm not so sure - I think its one of those things you need to try and see if it fits in with your daily activities. Essentially what RSS will do is let you subscribe to changes in web pages (or in this case databases - the generated page that has all the conversations you are in). It then checks them in the background and alerts you if there is anything new.
So for example I might have an RSS reader running that checks the BBC news site, ebay and (perhaps one day) H2G2. It will just alert me of any new news items, bids or posting to H2G2 come in.
I guess it would work if you habitually use the computer for other things and want H2G2 to let you know if any messages come in (a bit like Instant Messenger).
It wouldn't work for guys who want to login to H2G2 and simply browse around, see whos there, reply to a few posts etc.
Sorry if this is patronising - I don't know whether you've used this stuff before

"And you also know this little gadget I presume
< <./>MP205838?skip=0&show=5&s_type=pop&s_target=conversation</.> >
So indeed what is the use of another infomartion format as I already follow it during the day.
Well, I would not mind to see the <./>info</.>rmation scrolling by too. Actually I am just playing with this XML version we call GuideML, but in time I will play with other web scripts as well.
And then these RSS feeds could provide some usefull information "

well an RSS feed is an XML feed - its just a particular format read by something called an RSS reader.
Sounds as if Jeff Lynne is on top of this one anyway - not sure when it will arrive but it will be interesting when it does!
