Stuck in Casablanca, with nothing else to do,
I searched for inspiration in the backlog of HooToo,
Then Auntie - Cuba - fifty years and what they have to say,
And a fifteen-year Moroccan girl asking, "write a pome 'bout Ché.

so

– Ché Guevara –
written for Sabrina

The iconic face of protest stares past us into space,
A look of grim resolve, etched deep upon its face,
Who was this man and why does he affect us still today?
Was he cruel? Was he kind? What is he trying to say?

Should we all revere him, for his battle for the poor?
Or should we all despise him, for supporting civil war?
Did he let his hatred of the West’s great power and wealth,
Teach him to preach killing, by deviousness and stealth.

In the ambush in Higuera, by the CIA contrived,
To his executioner he said, “I’m more use to you alive.”
But, had he lived and carried on, what image would we paint?
A hero or a terrorist – a demon or a saint?

Thank you.

You can blame Bell-Hell.
When faced with the prospect of teaching the sprogs of the 'grace & favour' elite - I was terrified - my post editor said 'read them your pomes' - so I did. The brats asked for more.

Not the proscribed way of EFL teaching but is (sort of) works.

I hadn't actually thought of that one - I'll try it.
Lighter and hair-spray has done the trick so far.

I was asked to post this here:

A Pome

Can We Be Forgiven

Can we be forgiven for the errors we have made?
Will the debts we owe the world be ever fully paid?
Can we hope the future will be better than before?
A world where everybody isn't just demanding more.

Can we ever hope that peace will reign supreme,
That living with each other isn't just a crazy dream?
Can we see the day when 'One God' means what it implies
And we can live together without xenophobic lies?

Can we see a day when there won't be 'black and whites'?
Can there be one day on earth when not one person fights?
Can there be a day when money all now spent on arms,
Is spent on starving mothers who have babies in their arms.

Can we see a day, when realising we are wrong,
We try to help the poor, and make the weakest strong,
To have a world where all of us can travel where we please,
Without the need for visas, or begging on our knees.

A wishful dream - the ramblings of a catatonic brain?
The dreams of the depressive, the ramblings of disdain?
Perhaps not - as it seems we have - at long, long, long last
A man within the White House who's an erudite half-caste.

The warbler spun a beleaguering tale
Whilst the clouds danced with the mountain
Lessoning the power of a passing storm
Waters wandered unobtrusive to life
Catkins busied away at nothing
A moonlit shadow walked with impudence
The call of silence heralded the awakening
Looking to the sky to behold a dream
Yonder forest tall and majestic yearned
Animal’s nestled on the bracken in awe
The story unfolded with no beginning
Melodic tunes filled the air asunder
Gentle wisps of dandelion seeds drift
How the grass held audience with the dew
Time took measure without a sound
Ferns swayed in a tidal wave of calm
Could this be before the advent of man
Least time reverses who shall know

even I don't understand itsmiley - ermsmiley - erm
