I suppose that is a bit like how fast do you run?

On ice, treacle, or tarmac after global warming?????? smiley - biggrin

What would a Taoist say?
In all probability: "Let it be."
And why? To implement your aims would destroy mother earth.

Man is only flesh, and his flesh is what keeps him imprisoned and restrained within boundaries, which he can never break away from, as clever as he might thinks he is.

Unless he's clever enough to patent battery-powered superluminal flight and antigravity, eh James?

It depends whether it is a vacuum cleaner or a magnet.

Now if you can prevent light from being absorbed by an object will it gain mass as it accelerates?

You never learn, do you James?

hell O every body,

gravity is not a unknown force, in our mothers womb its like space walk for us we float in the placenta hear spaced out sounds and as we gain mass
we reflexively kick our legs trying to escape gravity. All our nerves neural networks are form because of gravity. Its such a force that grows with us, so to escape it we would have to be born in space, trying to imagine what would happen( man what have i got myself into).
here is something thats been nagging my mind for some time.
since the start of the industrial revolution we have been mining iron ore and redistributing it all over the world on an economic basis. I believe this has caused a wobble in the earths orbit, and that this is the culprit behind the present Global warming happening, the extremes that are happening. So we have managed to bugger up earths gravity structure which took millions of years to solidify at the exact spot where needed to create this nested loop of life called humanity. And we in our ignorance have mined it and are still mining it at enormous rates. To restore this natural order of balance we need to stop mining at once.

Hmm,

I'd have thought of gravity - the unseen acceleration.

After all Force is mass x acceleration. Your weight always misquoted as (for example) 70 kg is in fact your mass and your weight is infact closer to 700N (well that's assuming gravity is 10 m/s/s when it is more commonly 9.80665 m/s/s - but the again that depends upon the latitude and.....

I'm getting too technical.

"If you cannot see it is it there?" Well the argument presented about magnetism is equally applicable to wind.

I too like many people am fascinated by Gravity. But unlike magnetism (which is selective) if it has mass then gravity has a tug. It goes through and around things. Is it particle based? Is it wave based? Is it simply an attraction between two masses?

A very interesting phenomena of that there is little doubt. What can we do to circumvent it?

We cant seem to shield against it it pulls through anything and everything - or at least it appears to. We cant neutralize it unless you have zero mass.

And it all started from an apple.

But the again what would I know.

Can't you? I thought light travels slower through a medium such as water or glass. So as the light comes out of the water or glass that would mean it "accelerates".

After all isnt that part of the principal of refraction - whiht light enters a prism at an angle and as it exits its now split into the colours of the rainbow?.

Now technically I havent pressed the accelerator panel and made light go faster. But the affect is still the same

I believe the person who got that ball rolling found otherwise - that objects with mass cannot accelerate TO the speed of light (requires exponentially increasing sums of energy the closer one gets, topping at infinity).

But none of Einstein's theories actually state things cannot go faster, nor that we might not already be moving at that speed (if you are going to postulate a big bang, and believe in things like inflationary epochs, there's no reason why we can't assume we started out at light speed).

Massless things, of course, can go as fast as light - in theory one might add.

"Massless things, of course, can go as fast as light - in theory one might add."

There's no "in theory" at all - photons are massless objects that travel at the speed of light, since they *are* light.

It's true, "c" (light speed) is just a barrier, not a limit, and FTL particles have been theorised ("tachyons"). They will, however, be travelling through time in the opposite direction to us, so whilst detection may be possible, interaction with a tachyonic entity would be impossible.

Hey, James, it's amazing what one finds when browsing archives. Look what I found from the killed-off science boards: "Kiteman I only accept creation as fact. The dreamtime world of the human I find fascinating but not much use for life." http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbsn/F2564204?thread=3190396&skip=40&show=20#p37093384 Oh, it makes me shake my head and sigh, seeing that confession from somebody who claims to know science...

One more clue for all the, dummy, did-dummies.

If you can shoot through the propeller of a plane, how fast would you need to spin the propeller so you could not shoot through it?

You must be getting bored. Having trouble getting your spaceship out of the garage?

That depends on the length, width and thickness of the propeller, and on the dimensions of the bullet.

Nothing to do with any of your woowoo schemes, or your theocratic warfare tactics.

==================================

It depends on the rate of fire and the speed of rotation.

With gravity you cannot spin any object fast enough to prevent gravity passing through, even if you could no one could fly in such a craft.

What I have done is create a spin without the craft moving, making it possible for a human to survive the experience, and at the same time create a spin so fast that it will prevent the gravity wave from having any effect.
