Travelling on the underground, I used to find an interesting experience, but since I moved to Essex the novelty has worn off. As for travelling on the underground experience definitely helps as where to go which trains to catch, but if you are shy and retiring you will definitely lose out. Its the law of the jungle and get that seat. I usually try to get a free copy of the metro a free paper definitely worth getting and reading, usually the same paper goes thro' several hands. I do the same on the train and on the train to Fenchurch Street I am on the lookout for discarded newspapers. Leaving Fenchurch Street station do not use the main entrance/exit if you want to continue travelling by underground use the alternative exit/entrance half way up the platform. Also if using Fenchurch Street late at night you may travel for free, but be warned I know someone who has just paid a £10 fine for not having a valid ticket. I live in Essex now and believe in Public Transport but to be honest for local transport you really need a car to get about the train/bus transport has a lot to be desired.
