Author: Not panicing yet - U187116
Since there aren't any Edited Guide Entries on George Best, I'd thought it was about time he was included. I've got three on different aspects of his life, and I'd love the feedback of anyone willing to give it. I won't be offended, but I'd love to hear of ways to tweak this entry to make it worthy of going into the Edited Guide.

Hi Not panicking yet
I had a huge crush on George as a teenager, so I'll go through all your entries. Thanks for writing them
This should be removed, please:

You link to unedited entries and that isn't allowed, your three entries will be linked by the sub or the Editors in the final stages before the entries go live, and they'll be different A-numbers.
I'll go read your others now

Oops .... I just realised the other one was one of three ... so ignore my comments about the 'state funeral'.
I'm off to look for the third part.

Why should that be removed?

Why should it remain?
It's incorrect, and a slur. It never got to court, charges were "dropped" so there was legally no case to answer. That doesn't deserve to be in an Entry about a person.

But it isn't incorrect at all, although if you wanted to be nitpicky you'd say that the charges were dropped rather than that he was cleared. You can't slur somebody by repeating a fact that is in the public domain. Relevant articles are still in BBC News reporting the incident - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/southern_counties/4652057.stm - so as long as the wording is correct, it's up to the author whether he/she wishes to include the fact or not.

Legally there's no problem stating the plain fact of George Best historically being under suspicion for an offence and then being subsequently cleared of all suspicion of guilt. It's the author's decision whether or not to include this information. Having looked at the Entry, he does so in a single sentence and within context, including the line "he was cleared of all the charges", therefore we're happy for it to stand.

It should probably say that the charges were 'dropped' though, shouldn't it? To say that he was 'cleared' suggests that charges were brought against him in court, which they weren't. This is quite a pedantic point, I know, but it's best to be legally correct.

OK. Change the text to 'all charges dropped' instead of 'cleared of all charges'.

The unedited entries are still showing, they should be removed, thanks. This A2408690 is a personal list of London links, and is never going to be edited. Choose a London entry from the list and link to that

There's some repetition there, I suggest:
He married twice: Angela MacDonald-James in 1978, they had a son, Calum, born on 6 February 1981. Calum is a model and has appeared in ITV's Celebrity Love Island and Calum, Fran and Dangerous Danan in 2006. George and Angie divorced in 1984. In 1995, George married Alex Pursey, a former airhostess

Great!" Will change this evening. Yeah, wasn't happy with that paragraph anyway.

Have tweaked the paragraph and changed the London link. Found an edited entry dedicated to the city, so that should work better.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
