Just a thought - would it be worthwhile putting this (or a copy of it) through the peer review in a bid to get it into the edited guide? I think it could easily work as such - with a bit of fiddling around...

... you mean UserName analysis? It was my first effort at a guide entry and was considered, however I think the editors felt (after what seems to have been a debate amongst themselves) that it was interesting but not exactly a system of facts. Which is true. It does not surprise me to discover that I cannot easily be the author of Guide Entries coz my particular gifts lie in the direction of making things up rather than reporting on reality. I don't mind. It sort of pleases me to find the occasional wayfarer stumbling in through this portal, and I wouldn't be able to handle more traffic.
Or did you mean summing else? (but wot, but wot ...)

Nah - that's whast I meant...
Would you mind if I grabbed a copy of the text and tried to beat it around and see if the editors change their minds? I'll make sure you're referenced, of course...

Sure, go ahead -- I'd like an honourable mention as the (maybe) inventor of this activity -- I mean, I have no idea whether or not the web is absolutely teeming and crawling with UserName Analysts and if so, do not want to step on any creative toes, but for myself, I can say that I wrote up the entry based on my private views on the subject -- tell me what you have in mind, it may inspire me to some action. If you'd like, you can send me e-mail at [email protected].
If I'm feeling energetic, I may drop by at your site and look up your ICQ number ...

Well of course - Plus, I can be more confident and claim that you ARE the inventor - whereas modesty forbids you from doing the same...
I'll make the entry, and give the link here - if you don't like it, I'll wipe it... If you do get inspired, I'll send you the GuideML and you can take it from there...

I want to expand on the bit about patterns somwehat - point out that rhythms are, I think a sign of some musical talent, possibly a drum player, etc, etc. Plus grab an example or two for it. The bit on 'Frantic Semantics' could do with an example as well. A bit more on capitalisation, plus an example? Same for ascenders/descenders?
Some of the headings need livening up, perhaps - I'm tempted to change 'Physical Dimensions' to 'Size Matters' but that could be a bit tacky...
Plus of course - any new ideas you've had since you wrote the entry - I've a few ideas of my own I want to put in, but you're the expert...

Been feeling a little more alert in the past twenty minutes. Might even be upto tackling the noble cause of UNA.
I note with pleasure that BMMT is feeling a little more positive. I've thought about what concrete solutions to offer and think I have some -- gimme an hour or two, I'll post them tonight.

Unfortunately, we may have to remove your inventorship - seems like one of the scouts has been doing the same thing with number plates and IRC handles for too long...

I read that message -- not surprising -- it would be WEIRD if something so obvious were never to have been attempted before (I think I was properly diffident in the introductory article? I hope). Praps "invented" is too proprietorial ... (I was thinking about this earlier today ... you've heard of Cheiro? The man associated with palmistry. Well he always maintained that all he ever did was formalise existing notions in a way that could be followed (*digitized*) by any "adept") ... perhaps "proposes the idea of" may be better?
I realize that an hour has flitted by and I haven't exactly got very far! Hmmm. I need to sleep ... more tomorrow, I guess. Good hunting, Mag
