This isn't the kind of writing that I enjoy - states of mind, atmosphere, stream of consciousness, so I don't really think I have anything to say about this one.

Fair enough. There are some sorts of stories I dislike too
I had a stinking cold at Christmas and couldn't seem to get warm. I thought when my head stopped leaking, I would write about cold. This one is about an American soldier in the second world war. They had to fight the Germans in a forest in the middle of winter. This soldier almost dies and he has an "out of the body experience".
Consider it an experiment that failed.
