Now after all these postings extolling the art of the highly visual richly flavoured website, try looking at this page for some low tech wizardry in the art of webpage programming.

and yes the 5k does refer to the maximum size of the site!

This from Jim Lynn to the subs' mailing list, when I commented on the improved performance of this site:
"
Well, we've identified a reason why the site was slow which was unrelated to the loss of a server. Since that time (late Tuesday night) the site has been looking pretty good.
"
Good morning everybody. I'm glad you finally got the LBs underway, Sporky.

I did think that one of the servers going down shouldn't have slowed it all down that much. Still at least some people are kept informed (and are willing to share the info )

Got any special plans for the weekend, Phil?
19th Conversation at Lil's
Phil Posted Jul 7, 2000
This weekend I will be mostly moving homes. Not myself, but helping some friends move from Birmingham to Branston (which came first the sweet pickle or the village?) which is just outside Burton Upon Trent (once home to the UK's brewing industry).
And yourself? Are you going to be doing devilish things with the people in poser?

Phil
I've just had a look at those 5k winners.
Brilliant work by the creators, Just shows how much you can do in that space.

Amazing stuff that they've managed to do with such a small amount of code size. I do like the first prize winner the virtual shop in 5K, complete with shopping basket facility the other one which I liked was the 3d tetris game.

Can't say it doesn't look interesting...

In addition to those I thought the Web colour picker was a great example of doing something really useful in the space, and the worlds smallest art gallery was a brilliant idea.

Oooh I didn't get to see those, my computer crashed just after the cubes
So now I've struggled back in again just to bid you a good weekend.
And good holiday for those who are so lucky!
Whitch reminds me; I might go to London in two weeks time, anyone have a nice bed&breakfast to recommend?
Bye!

The art gallery I thought brought a touch of class to the whole proceedings.

Strangly enough although I live in London I'm not a lot of help because I never need to use a B&B here

Oh a wise guy.
Yo Phil -- I'm a HOUSE PET. *flashes collar and tag* The lady said so. You be polite. Socialize me.
*grabs a donut, winks at Violet, runs over Mindspring's fat belly and disappears out ratflap*

Just because Lil allows you to be a house pet, still doesn't mean you can be rude. I do socialise, please make sure your spelling is in order, socialize indeed!

*Springie meeps protestingly at being wakened*
Sorry dear. Next time I'll give you a donut and you can surprise him big-time.
Phil, I keep forgetting you're from Birmingham. Are the trees still in bloom? Is there really a sewage convention going on there?
19th Conversation at Lil's
Phil Posted Jul 7, 2000
Well I'm not from Brum (Born Manchester, living London), but do have some very good friends there. As for the sewage convention, quite likely. I doubt the trees are in bloom now, but there should be quite a number of flowers, the grass will be green (no really hot days and drought here) and the trees will be in leaf. All quite pleasant till you remember you're in one of the very densly populated cities of this island.

I miss it anyway.
So is there still a lot of newstalk about Ewan, or is everybody talking about the misplacement of the World Cup venue?
19th Conversation at Lil's
Phil Posted Jul 7, 2000
I know what you mean Lil.
The pictures in the papers this morning were mostly of the Blairs. Still in my mind, it don't matter, but if you are going to do something like that you don't get caught asleep/unconcious in the middle of Leicester Sq. As for the world cup, well I wasn't expecting us to win. I'd have thought that SA would have won. Never mind. The only thing slightly worrying is there has been an allegation of notes shoved under delegates doors by the Germans, true or not that's nasty. The other point is that the representative of the NZ federation decided to abstain in the last ballot when he'd been told to vote for SA by his bosses. Wonder what Loony's got to say about that one.
Got to go as I've a train to catch. See you next week.
