I am having a dilema, should I clean my flat or revise. I need to do both urgently?
I am annoyed because I've lost a book I brought specifically to revise from. I should clean in the hope that I could find it. I can just hear my mothers voice saying 'Why do you never take care of the things that we give you'.
Well mother you can now see that I buy my own things now, and I don't take care of them either.

Mr D, Skye certainly is one of my favourite places, it just makes me want to train to be a GP so I can work there, or somewhere like it.

Z, I'm going to engage you in discussion later on concerning your statement about art appreciation, that one person's opinion is as good as anyone else's. But right now I have to drive to Roswell to get the car serviced.

Why do I feel that I am the only person in here who does not really appreciate art? I look at most of it and don't see the point. To me a camera is the best visual artistic medium. It records fact. You can't creat things out of nothing with a camera, you have to record what is there. The creativity comes from the work in a darkroom.
Hmm, I wonder if there is an Art gene that I am missing. Pictures is pictures. The only artists that I "like" are Dali and Escher. Everything else is just something to break up the monotony of the walls.

I'm sure some science hack will find the art appreciation gene before long.

Marv, I have yet to find *any* artist that I like.

Music can be much like art as well, in that there are some genres of music, or artists, or composers, or individual songs/whatever that I just don't 'get'. I like what I like, and it tends to be fairly random (but must have a tune). My tastes in art are similarly random, but I prefer art to be a painting/sculpture/whatever of something rather than seeming random. Maybe I'm just not prepared to work hard enough to appreciate the more unsual branches of art?

It's snowing worse now than it did at any point this past winter. I hate snow.

I spent an unpleasant evening in my living room once with a conceptual artist who was so far up his own @rse he could wave out of his nose. Apparently everything we had in our home was only there because we thought other people would like it, we were not able to form opinions of our own. Apparently we are unable to like or dislike any works of art, or even recognise a work of art when we saw it. The only people who could tell you if a work of art was worth liking are people that have been to art college to learn about art and art history. The uneducated masses may *think* we like a particular painting or sculpture but as we don't know everything about every painting and artist that ever was we couldn't possibly really *know* if we liked it or not. Tosser.

Home from Ghana - arrived this morning and has spent the day replenishing the fridge & taking the dog to the vet (badly infected paw, has lost a nail )
Lil - may I get a backlog exemption pass, size XL please? 23 days with very little net access has dropped me way, way behind... And did you have a chance to check with the bots if my cattle prod could be exchanged for an elephant prod?
I have a rather prolific travel diary and lots of pics from the Tropics - once the Mrs has had a chance to look through my writing and I have had the chance to edit, select and resize a suitable load of images, I'll do some publishing. I'll be announcing it in my journal & here (of course!). Expect up towards a week, though...
Good to be home after a fabulous holiday

A picture is a picture is a picture.
I agree that cameras take real pictures. There is a lot of beauty in a sunset, sunrise, a person walking alone on a dusy country road. You show me a picture of Blue Boy, Whistler's Momma, or even the Last Supper and I'll say nice but what makes them so special? I'm not like that about all painted pictures, a Vargas would get my attention.
But if you think you like a painting without knowing why, so what. Do we have to have a reason for liking something. If you are buying a painting because you think it might be worth something some day then maybe it would be helpful to know why it might be worth something some day.
I had a cousin who as a kid picked up all kinds of junk and put them in his room. You walked into the room and instead of seeing junk you saw a room that looked and felt artistic. If I did that you would see a room full of junk. He didn't paint his room - he decorated it. And it was interesting in a likeable way.
