Ah, Zaphod, but you have unwittingly bookmarked yourself for the duration of the discussion.
Ah, to have been condemned for being insufficiently superficial...
Now Mike A has gone to his room, Babel's off home. A quiet night, I guess, eh Springie?

Oh! I didn't see you in that wingchair.
I'll make us some tea.
*from kitchen*
Over at the Aroma Cafe we just had a race to the new thread. Only 4 contestants (I was the threadsetter) but next time we'll hold it earlier for Brits and I know a lot more researchers will compete. I did wonder though if we would give the old database a stroke!

I've been sat down with a book for a bit.
Thanks for the drink and biscuits.
Do you know if the advertised upgrade is the conversion to the all new Version 2.0 of H2G2?
I've read the continuity thing and it's good. It does seem that most of the researchers generally adhere to `the rules' and don't do anything silly ('cept when multiple personalities are involved and a mistake is made).

The new vewrsion features different skins - plus some other technical stuff which is over my head

I had a brief chat with Jim Lynn about the new version at the meet and got some of the technical detail then. I'n not one of the guinea pigs so I couldn't access the test setup (suppose I aught to email and get myself on the testers list).
Should be interesting to see.

Bruce ran through ripley like a dose of salts, a real pro. That man knows how to beta test an app.

I've been exploring the beta version of the new H2G2, and I must admit to a mixed reaction. Hopefully things will be worked out to make things easier, but as of right now, keeping track of a conversation as long as this one would be an irritation at best.
Umm... I'll pass on the cookies... I don't eat anything that people call a "digestive"... sounds too much like a cure for constipation.

*wakes*
Digestive biscuits are a kind of hardtack for civilians. I learned to like them when I lived in the UK.
I try to keep these threads well trimmed, with Defensive Thread Management. Some researchers are going to hit the roof when that new display routine comes out. Do you suppose there's a purpose to it? Are they deliberately trying to make it difficult to sustain a thread after a certain point? Not to worry: the masses will find a way.
*sits up slightly causing Springie to protest*
Is this thread too long already??

We're doomed to transparent GIFs if a researcher's choice of skin determines the bg color of every screen they see. A lot of my spot graphics merge into the blue bg which, incidentally is not a web-safe shade. I'll have to pick an intermediate shade.
Or it can be put in the page header "This page intended for viewing withclassic skin".
Well, it's time for me to try out the sleep trick, see whether I've mastered it.
*carries the sloth back to her cage, then goes to private apartments*
Gnight yall.

I'm considering putting a bgcolor attribute in my homepage to correct that, should it become a problem. That should override whatever is in the skin.

So they're just letting anyone test Reipley...I wonder if I can still get in?
I hated the new skin. Classic look for me please.

I don't know who they're letting test it, or how they selected them. All I know is I got an email allowing me to take part. I suspected it was because they gave me the funny yellow badge, so, as our resident fallen angel, I don't know if they'll let you on.
Anyway, from what I've seen, the best policy may be to just enjoy the old stuff while it lasts... you can choose to get rid of the new skin, but you'll still be stuck with the limitations of the new programming.

I can't get the forums straight! I tried to post to a forum that it said updated, and when I clicked on the link I only saw part of the conversation, none of which I had posted to. And it was old. I thought the newer parts of the conversation would appear before the older? *sporky passes out in confusion*
