I can scarcely recognize the America being propounded by the reds. No public education! Withdrawal from the UN! No contraception, and re-education camps for homosexuals, since they believe it's a lifestyle choice that can be "cured."

Apparently the teacher is suing the mother for defamation. Were I to write what I am currently thinking, I would be moderated, let's leave it at that.

That's just awful. And while we're discussing our rights slipping away and homosexuality:

The best that can be hoped for is that the extreme right wing of the Republican Party is over-reaching so drastically that, first, the moderate Republicans will resist the whip and vote against the worst the deep reds can do, and second, that the voters wake up and see what's being done to the country by 2006.

Unless there's a big push by evangelical churches to get out the vote in 2006. I think these kinds of activities should immediately disqualify them from tax-exempt status. You tell your congregation who to vote for by inference (i.e. "He's for family values." "He's in a Bible study group." "He's a born again Christian.") you automatically start paying taxes just like everyone else.

It's important to reframe the debate, read your Lakoff and come out swinging. Calling evangelical leaders mullahs. Calling the Republican plan to privatise social security a plan to _abolish_ social security. The party that frames the debate controls the debate.

Man, I can only hope that the population of Florida wasn't that stupid!

That wouldn't have anything to do with the intelligence, or lack of it, of the population of Florida. Those were invisible buttons, meaning there was no graphic interface, you just had to know where they were. There's been a lot of discussion about it on Dailykos, where I also found this amazing story:

Hypocrisy! Who would have thought it!
If you have trouble loading that page (it has hundreds of comments attached), the case is that a Rev Mike Hintz were invited to the White House and used as live models as Pres Bush gave a little talk about how his tax cuts benefit "regular folks." Rev Hintz took advantage of the occasion to speak out strongly in support of Pres Bush's strong actions on behalf of family values, and how good it made him feel to know that Dubya was protecting his family and all of America from moral decay.
Just a few days ago this same Rev Hinz was arrested in Iowa for having sex with a minor, a 17-year-old girl, one of his own parishioners.

The programmer and the affidavit are for real and several major news agencies are now investigating the claim. One admittedly paranoid concern is that this may fall into the "disinformation" camp, like those memos that were leaked to Dan Rather during the campaign.
